I purchased a pay-per-view (boxing) & recorded in my Windows XP MCE 2005. When I try to transfer it to a DVD disc, it won't allow me..."Unable to add file, content protected". The I purchased a Digital Media Converter 2.7 but it the same thing, I thought it'll solve the problem...Anyone could help me please....I'm a newbie. Thanks in advance TonyF

Hallo tonyFF,
I don`t know this system "pay-per-view (boxing)"
but I suppose you`re aware that copying DVDs is illegal?
and the content is "protected"

Welcome to the wonderful world of DRM, where you have no rights.

Think twice before purchasing any kind of content.

Wish I could help other than with that advice, but hopefully you'll save some $$$ in the future.

-Do you believe you own your computer and shouldn't be told what you can run and do? Then say *NO* to Microsoft Vista!
-Since half the questions here involve media problems, here ya go: Only use Verbatim or Taiyo-Yuden discs (get your TYs from Rima.com, not Supermediastore or meritline). Forget the rest, no matter what "brand" they sell under. Always burn at 4x speed regardless of the speed rating of this discs or your drive. If you have burn problems with these then you have to update your drive's firmware. For double-layer discs, only use Verbatim DVD+R DL and burn them at 2.4x speed.

I'm just trying to have a backup so I could erase it from my hard drive (it's a big file, 3 hrs of recording from the tv). Anyway, Thanks for the response.

Tony the problem you are having is caused by "Macrovision" .
Macrovision is a form of DRM " Digital Rights Management " .
Windows programs recognize this form of DRM and refuse to make a copy of the data to be made. The only way around it is to keep your copy of DATA free of Macrovision. This is possible with a few devices that can be found on the Internet call Video Enhancers. These enhancers correct the video by putting the Video back on the video track and off of the sound track, correcting the audio/video the way it is supposed to be. Eliminating the defect in the audio/video "Macrovision" or DRM. The recording has to be recorded free of this DRM when recorded. I don't know of a way to erase the DRM from a file that already has it.

You *might* be able to burn it with IMGBurn or with some other freeware burner as data. If it's in DVD format, you can re-rip with DVD-Decrypter to get rid of the Macrovision. However, Macrovision is probably only part of the issue if it's present at all - that stuff you downloaded is likely encrypted as well. It depends what format it came in and who sold it to you.

Big thanks for the responses.. The format is still a DVR-MS (recorded tv show - I've watched boxing on a pay-per-view channel). I tried power compress, Digital Media Converter, DVD Copy Pro, AnyDVD..still no luck, probably I'm not doing the proper way of converting it or there's no really way to transfer it to a DVD disc(becuse of that content protection)..Once again THANK YOU very much....I'll keep on searching & I'll post it here once I found the way to do it...
