I'll try to keep this concise. My swap magic dvd boot disc broke. I have seen tutorials explaining how to switch a cd based backup to dvd format. I was merely wondering if there's any way to reverse that, use my cd boot disc to boot a burned copy of the dvd boot disc. If this is linked to somewhere I apologize, but I did scour the forum for a while. Any help is much appreciated.

I'm no pro when it comes to explaining but i had this exact problem, from what i hear there are a few ways around it but the way i like to use is this... First insert your swapmagic cd and wait until it loads, open the lid and swap for cdloader 7, once cdloader is loaded switch cdloader with a big toc dvd disc such as gta vice city... you should then see a screen that says PS2 DVD in the bottom and says swap with dvd using ea method, put in your backup and your ready to go =)

You don't have to assume it works for sure bro ;) Also there is another method using cogswaploader i'm not exactly sure how to work that one as i haven't tried but doing some searching may help, if you have any questions about the method i used and mentioned above feel free to ask.

So...I am sure I am doing something wrong here. Can't get it to work. Here's the process as I understand it, please feel free to point out where I'm being stupid:

1. Load Swap Magic 3.3 cd version
2. Insert Cd Loader v7 and load it
3. Insert my backup copy of Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and load it

The outcome every single time has been an "Error when trying to read disc" message. And I promise the disc is very clean. Oh, also I have a slimline ps2, dunno if that's relevant or not.

Oh yeah 1 last step somewhere before step 3, remove the tissue or clip that is covering right above the power button that opens and closes the lid and THEN put in your GTA Vice city game or else it will say error reading disc... Meaning just remove the sensor that detects of the PS2 is open/closed after cdloader is loaded and right before you put in GTA so that it reads GTA correctly, after that put it back when gta is in and it should say something about swap DVD.

So just so I get it straight:

Step 1. Load Swapmagic
Step 2. Use Swapmagic to boot Cd Loader v7
Step 3. Open the PS2 and remove the tissue
Step 4. Insert GTA: Vice City

Is that accurate? Wanna make sure I don't screw it up.

Yeah that is correct remove the tissue before putting GTA in and then put it right back after it's in so it can read it correctly, leave the tissue in at all other times :)

I feel like I'm being an idiot here, which is probably true. I keep getting an "invalid disc" message on the bottom of the cd loader screen no metter what speed I take the tissue out and put in vice city.

You don't have to rush just after cdloader loads completely open the lid... remove the tissue put GTA vice city in and close the lid without the tissue and wait till it loads, after it's done it should say swap via ea method just take out the GTA game, put the tissue back & put the backup dvd in and press X as directed and it should boot =)

P.S. Don't worry bro your not an idiot it may take a few try's as it did with me but after the 1st or second time it's fairly simple and quick.
