HDTV to PC ,is it possible ?

Hi
First i must apologize , as i wasnt sure which HDTV
sub forum this message fit into
i need to know , as a noob , are ppl able to play HDTV
files from their PC to their Hi-def TV sets ? or ?
i have this file
xxxx.xxxx.1440x1080i.h.264.AC3.2.0.19.5Mbs.BBCHD.logo
for a few months now ,and have never got more that a few
seconds of audio ,then it crashes .
i was informed at that time ,i needed a dvd2hdmi cable
(i was using a S-cable back then) out from my video card
to my 60 inch Sony wega , so i finally was able to purchase this cable ,and still cant play this file
i`m not sure what i may have missed here , can any kind folk please advise further ? And is there possibly a special forum where such issues may be discussed if not in here ?
im informed others are playing these no problems , any ideas on why this may not work for me ?

your pc should beable to output hd to the tv using the dvi to hdmi cable. it sounds to me like your file is bad. can you play it on your pc?

FYI ur computers moniters resoulution is the probaly the same as the best HDTV avaible
1.2ghz T-Bird OH YEAH!

What are the specs of you PC, you'll need these to be able to play HD.
Minimum Configuration
(to play 720p video)

Cheers on informed replies
i have made some progress since my post ,but its not
100% yet
After realizing the said file was h.264 ,i got the latest
Power dvd 7x . i can now play the file , but the picture drags
or is jerky . This i suppose is due to my weak PC
AMD Athlon 2600 (but on reboot of pc reads 1150 but is set correct
in bios..Hmmmm...)
About 1 gig and 1/2 DDR memory
i can play most HDTV files now ,just those damm h.264 encodes
kill my system . im not sure what the advantage of h.264 is ,
esp for a poor man like me who cant afford the costly upgrade
on my pc to play these files .
Spenman91 ,fanx for the specs required , d ya know the specs
if h.264 is involved ? Seems the huge majority of good things available ,like the awesome planet earth series ,all have that codec .
Leaving me in the cold .
i`m told my Gigabyte board cant go much higher than the 2600 it is
This means a new board and CPU ,and now that all good boards only have 1 IDE slot ,and the rest SATA , the cost rises even more ,at best
id need USB cases for these drives i have now, and at least 1 more
costly SATA drive,and prob new memory .
Sounds like an entire new system to me , all to play these h.264 files
Curse the h.264 LOL. The non h.264 looks just as good to me on my
80 inch Sony wega ,h.264 seems like a disadvantage from where i stand
with empty pockets .
im real new to these hd-HDTV files ,and have also posted a inquiry
in HDTV discussion ,asking if i can post such .Concerning HDTV
broadcast rips etc. i hope ive not double posted ,and does this post
now belong over there ? As i have some more inquiries after i resolve this one

I'm not sure because I've never done it, or herd of it being done but, I wonder if you could find a program to convert that file format into a different one such as maybe an HD AVI file so that your computer could handle it. But you said you could play HD files just not ones in that format. What kind of HD files can you play? Are they WMV for example?

Yes i can play wmv HD files ,as well as HD-.avi files
(Ps ,which i donot understand how an .avi can be HD ?
So HD itself is not a format?Or even a WMV ? .i have
seen over 7 gig .avi files tho ,so do these retain all
original HD content ? )
The only real prob for me is the h.264 codec HD files ,real
CPU hogs . i`m still not sure what their advantage is ,for me
its a disadvantage .

Yes i can play it in VLC ,video is choppy n jerky tho ,it must be
h.264 ??????
i hope i can beef my system up enough without a big bucks hand out

No prblem. BTW I'm not going to pretend that I'm an expert with HD video formats because I'm not. I'm pretty sure your processer should be sufficient to play 720p videos because from what I've herd an Athlon 2600 should run like a 2.6ghz P4. I would make sure to close any programs becides your video player while playing it. Also 1.5gb of ram should be more than enough so that shouldn't be the problem. I would assume your graphics card is decent enough but anyway, what kind do you have? Probablly the best thing you could do, I would think would be to overclock or get a new processer. Also about the AVI files, from my understanding AVI files can be many different sizes and qualities, it could be a possibility that they are HD but it would depend on how long they were for the most part. But yes WMA and AVI files can be HD because HD is not a video format of it's own. There are quite a few formats that can be in HD.

Fanx again Spenman91 and everyone else so far
My video card is an ATI Radeon 9550-256 Mb ,128 bit
It has dvi out and supports HDTV
im not sure why ,but when i reboot my system ,on the reboot
scan my CPU reports as 1150 ,but its a 2600 ,but when i go into
bios settings all seems ok there.im not sure what this means ,i
just thought id throw it in there in case.......
im almost certain the h.264 is the problem , what id like to
know is ,is there any way to re encode the files of h.264 myself
to something more friendly for my system ,without any video
quality loss ?
Your also correct on my ram being enough ,when i view task manager
these h.264 files barely touch memory ,but cpu is maxed at
100 %
im still holing out hope i dont have to do that costly upgrade i mentioned above........

I don't really know of any converters but you may want to try to google it and see what you can find. Also try looking to see what CPU you have by going to "system" under control panel.
