I currently have backed up two games. One game, Spongebob squarepants lights camera pants I used a Verbatim (DVD+R 16x) disc, and the other game called Pac Man World Rally, I used a Ritek (RitekF1) disc.
Pac Man World Rally, while having a low score through Nero CD DVD speed, is running flawlessly on my V14 PS2. However, Spongebob squarepants, though it has a 93 on Nero CD DVD speed with my VERBATIM disc, is freezing very often. The game just freezes during loading screens, or while a cutscene is playing the scene will freeze and the character's voice will repeat over and over.

Any ideas as to why the backup is freezing?
Do you have an internal chip or Swap Magic? You should burn your games as 4X maximum.
a couple things:
1. are both brands 16X DVD+R the speed and format could make a difference in how they play.
I always suggest people use a 8X DVD-R
2. Do you have any other burning programs other than Nero.
Nero is ok, and i am sure some people have had success with it. But personally i think it is not your best choice for backing up games.
DVD Decrypter if you can find a copy would be the #1 choice of about 80% of the members here.
If you already have the ISO then IMGburn will do the trick.
3. and like above 4X is my prefered speed on both 8X and 16X discs.
although i only use 16X discs in the rare case that i can not find any 8X. Since i order online this almost never happens.
4. make sure you have the latest version of firmware that is available for your burner. This has helped so many people in getting better quality copies. It will help with quality and media compatibility.
1) Both are 16x. Why is 16x not as reliable as 8x?
2) How can I tell if my PS2 laser is dying? I'm worried that the freezing may be due to my laser dying, yet I have a v14 PS2, which shouldn't die right?
3) Isn't burning too slow also a problem? At what speed should 16x be burned at?
4) Why is it that certain games that I burned at 2x, and on Nero CD DVD speed show 95 quality, yet on PS2 they stutter, while using same brand disc burning at 8x with 95 quality, on PS2 run flawless? Why isn't Nero CD DVD speed catching the difference in the quality, and why is the PS2 playback affected?

burning your games at a slower speed is recommended for those who have older burners, but if you have a new burner which is manufactured by BenQ or Liteon then you should burn at faster speeds as they are more reliable and the games will still run flawlessly.
