I sometimes make dvds from home movies and from tv broadcasts recorded to my PC in mpeg2 format.
I have been doing this for a while making single layer discs through TMPEG DVD Author but this doesnt seem to want to make a good Dual Layer movie for me.
I can make a film of any size to my hard drive and then burn using Nero but these are not coming up as viewable in most DVD players.
I can use the same Dual Layer media to copy a official disc using ISO READ/WRITE option in DVD DECRYPTOR and these play in every machine I try to use them in, even really picky players like the 3 in 1 TV/VCR/DVD players.
Has any one done this themselves with success?
As I say, I am 100% fine with copying films to Dual Layer but as the cost of the media is lower now, I would prefer not to have to shrink my own stuff down to single layer discs for the future.
It's quite a step up, you're going from a "hold your hand" type program to almost fully professional level authoring, but DVDLab can do it. I also love the freedom and general ease of use with dvdlab.
Well, for one thing, you'll need to split you video into separate cells, at least near the middle. Then, follow the below guide to actually set the layer break and burn. You will want to use DOUBLE LAYER (DVD+R DL), not "Dual Layer" (implying DVD-R DL) as those are thought to have more compatibility problems and are more rigid when it comes to the layer jump. Note that the guide below is a bit dated and the current version of PGCEdit expects IMGBurn to actually burn an image, rather than the older DVD-Decrypter.
-Do you believe you own your computer and shouldn't be told what you can run and do? Then say *NO* to Microsoft Vista!
-Since half the questions here involve media problems, here ya go: Only use Verbatim or Taiyo-Yuden discs (get your TYs from Rima.com, not Supermediastore or meritline). Forget the rest, no matter what "brand" they sell under. Always burn at 4x speed regardless of the speed rating of this discs or your drive. If you have burn problems with these then you have to update your drive's firmware. For double-layer discs, only use Verbatim DVD+R DL and burn them at 2.4x speed.
