I can't find anything about my motherboard to see if its compatible. It is an Asus A7N8X-E with onboard SATA.
Is there a way around flashing the drive everytime you want to backup a game and then haveing to flash it back to play it? Or is the the most productive way to do things?

I'm not ready to flash yet, I just am trying to figure out if my mobo will work. I have read that some people's mobo's are not compatible and i've searched to see if mine is, but I have had no luck.

Go onto Device Manager on Control Panel, look under IDE ATA/Atapi Controllers, and see what Sata controllers it lists.

Thats not Serial ATA. I'd suggest getting a PCI SATA card if and when you plan to flash your 360

What is it then? I have SATA HDD's, I took one out and formatted it for my powermac which also uses SATA and it works just fine there as well.

The reason your onboard Sata isnt listed under IDE controllers is because you probably have a raid setup. Your Sata port must be set to IDE not raid in your bios other flashing wont work. Anyway, can worry about that later.
According to Asus website, your board has a Sil3112A controller. And according to my docs, this chipset does not work with flashing Sammy drives. Thus you will need to buy a PCI chipset. They dont cost much. What country you in?

Ok. Have a look on newegg.com for the VIA6421L PCI Sata chipset. If newegg are out of stock, check a few other places. Thats the chipset you wanna get for flashing a Sammy

Does my motherboard work with any drives? Also is there a PCI SATA that I can buy that will work with all drives?

Your motherboard will flash Hitachi drives with SLAX to get it in modeB. It's the reccommended chipset for flashing Hitachi drives.

Alright, then I'll just look for a Hitachi 360.

Be use to use OPA 2.3 Stealth Revision 2.
Hopefully you will not get a Hitachi 0078fk as they are quite hard to flash.

Is there a way to tell what drive is used before I open the box, like at the store?

Open the 360 drive. There are pics showing the difference between a Hitachi and a Samsung drive. The only thing is you have to open the 360 in order to tell which firmware is on a particular samsung/hitachi drive.
