I'm thinking about getting a 360 and if/when I do I plan on updating the firmware so that I can play backups. The only thing that worries me is the SATA cable thing. I have this cable and my mobo supports it on my PC (A7N8X-Deluxe), but I've never used it before and don't know if there is anything special that I need to do for it to work. When I click on Plus symbol under Device Manager for 'SCSI and RAID controllers', it says 'A347SCSI SCSI Controller' and 'Silicon Image Sil 3112 SATARaid Controller'. I also heard how there are different Raid plugs for the different xbox drives and also different adapters that you need. In the process of taking apart my xbox 360 I'm sure there wont be a problem there, but basically from there, I dont know where I should go. I've seen video tutorials on youtube and such but he just magically gets this firmware file from online somewhere and thats probably where I'm worried. It seems like there are a large amount of files and you have to make sure to get the right one, and there are many different possible combinations of things to go wrong and I'm a little paranoid. So even if I have to do one step every day I will so long as I get this thing working properly. Besides the tools required to open up the box, what do I need for the firmware flashing?

Your motherboard has the perfect chipset to flash hitachi 360 drives (with the exception of the 0078fk). You can download SLAX and get your hitachi drive in modeB with it. Windows will then recognize the drive and assign it a drive letter. You run the firmware .bat file and you're done.

If you end up with a Samsung drive, then you will need a PCI SATA card with a compatable chipset.
