do I need a codec for it ? I already have divx 5.....

Are you refering to the Digital (cam)era AVI? You'll then need a DV codec. Canopus, Panasonic, MainConcept and Microsoft produce these codecs.

I think so ...I got a movie off of kaaza and it is an AVI.....and said it was a good cam...I guess I would need the microsoft one as I use media player to view my videos

wait a minute....if its encoded like that....wouldnt a full 2 hour movie be like....4 gigs??

A full film will be closer to 25GB in DV.

So it obviously isn't DV if he downloaded it via Kaaaaaaza.

Usually 60 or 80 minutes in SP mode depending on the tape. You get an extra 50% in LP mode.

Cam - Just recorded in a movie theatre
Telesync - Recorded in a movie theatre with sound from a seperate source
Telecine - Usually Ripped from a Reel
Screener - Usually VHS to VCD/SVCD
DVD SCR - DVD RIP of promotional material

vcdquality has the whole list!
