Hi,
I'm new to this forum, gaming & modding.
I've been reading about how easy it is to play backups so I bought the new silver 77001 and thought I'd give it a try. I bought the 3 pc. Magic Keys II set and the new swapmagic 3 coder 3.8 which I was told at the sale site was the right one for my console.
I put the first two pieces in the console without any problem. Then installed the third piece after watching a split second video on how it pops right in. So I popped in the third piece, turned on the console, installed the swapmagic dvd and nothing happened. I moved the third piece around but still nothing. Disc won't spin.
Now I'm getting really nervous and decided to take them all out to see if the game still works...and of course...it does not.
It isn't spinning.
What have I done?!!
I'm freaking out!
Did I break the game?!!
Please Please help me!
I don't know what to do.
Thanks, Ocea

the best answer i can come up with is that you have installed the keys wrong.. if you inserted the first 2 pieces wrong the disc wont spin.. the second piece which goes in the back should not touch the disk at all.. so (THIS IS NOT COMPLETELY RECOMMENDED) use ur hand and push the piece a bit when the cd is in, if it starts spinning then the problem is with that piece if it does not then the problem is most likely with the first piece, the first piece has to push the little button (if ur using magic keys their first piece is a piece of crap) if its not workking try to use tape and gently mash in as much tape as possible but first make the tape like a cone at the bottome so that it goes in smoothly, if it still doesnt spin check both at the same time so after u placed tape use ur hand to check if its the second piece....
magic keys are not as easy to install as people make it seem to be.. well not if ur installing it for hte first time.. if it still doesnt work make sure the inside piece is covering hte right part and is completely covering it (always be gentle when checking and moving stuff around)... well if it still doesnt work.. then im sorry i dont know whats wrong..

It would seem as though you actually opted for the wrong MOD. NEVER, but NEVER use MagicKeys. They're made of steel, which can short your console(this is the case with piece 3). My guess is that there has been a modification of the steel plate near the hinge, which made your MagicKeys II hit somewhere it's not supposed to. Do you havea picture of the hinge(next to it)? I could probably direct you to your best MOD. Actually, I have made a MOD which is good for SCPH-70001 and SCPH-75001 PlayStation 2s, and I'm looking for someone who can use my MOD on an SCPH-77001 console. Link in my sig(Cardboard and Straw MOD, tested on an SCPH-75001 PlayStation 2). Before I forget, is the red Standby light still on, and can you power on your PlayStation 2?

Hi again,
Thanks for your help. I tried your suggestions with no results. So I decided to open it up. I can't stand not knowing what it looks like inside. Anyways I think the 3rd magic key broke the 3rd switch. I don't know what it should look like but when I pushed down on the switch with a toothpick it started spinning. So I need to come up with something to hold the switch in. I have some pictures. Can we post pictures here? If anyone has any suggestions what I should do I'd sure appreciate it.
Thanks again.

Hi Ace,
I didn't see your post until just after my last post.
You are right about the metal magic keys but I didn't know which ones to buy and I didn't find this forum until after my problem.
I'm not sure what to do. I'll wait to see if you read my last response.
Thanks!

Hi again,
I have a couple questions.
Does anyone know which version my new ps2 silver slim 77001 is?
And where can I buy the little cover that goes over the inside switch nearest the hinge? I saw it at swapmagic3.com. It's part of the package but I only need part D.
And how do you post pictures here?
Thanks!

Try removing all teh pieces and using the tape & tissue mod, I have a slim PS2 which i bought 1 day before the silver PS2 came out and i used it and it works fine plus it's free and easy, here is a little guide on how to do it nothing but tape and tissue: http://www.geocities.com/pstwoslimline/tapetissue.htm

You have a Version 15, the latest PlayStation 2 released. I still need a picture of the hinge to see if it's the newest method against that MOD, the metalic plate should be pushed in. If it's like that, it's possible that your MagicKeys II shorted something that controls the drive. If you can get it to work, try my MOD(like I said before, Cardboard and Straw MOD in my sig), I'm actually looking for someone who owns a Version 15 to test the MOD(once you cleared up your situation of course).

Hi Ace,
I broke the switch under the hinge so I've decided to send it off to Team Modders and have them fix it if they can (haven't heard back from them yet) and I'm going to have them install a modchip as well.
Thanks for the help!

You're welcome. Chipping your PlayStation 2 is the best thing to do. I chipped my PlayStation 2 with a DMS4 SE Lite, and I don't regret doing that, although I haven't verified the PAL to NTSC video conversion, but I will now, as I'm borrowing my friend's only European import, Red Baron.
