OK, I have got a PS2 and Swap magic. i want to burn games onto a disc and play it on my PS2.
Soo...let me get this straight.
Frstly, I download the game, and extract the .iso/.mdf/.mds file. I have got an .sfv file. This is not necessary for the burning is it? I can delete it I believe, as I have heard that it only checks that the file I have dowloaded is not corrupt or something.
I then use Alcohol 120%'s 'Image Burning Wizard' to burn the game not 'Image making wizard' as I am not ripping from a DVD/CD.
Do I use the wizard? If I do, what is the function of the huge white box in the main area of Alcohol 12%? When I right click, I have the option to add multiple Image files. How come I can add multiple image files here? Can I add multiple image files in Wizard? What is the difference between the wizard and the mysterious white box? Do they both do the same job? How do I use this white box? I mean, after I add the Image files, what do i do? Are there any important notes I must rememver to do prior to the burning? Like remembering to tick this box, and to ntick that one?
I cannot use DVD Decrypter can I? Considering the fact that I amnot ripping from a DVD.
I have also heard of this 'mounting', what is it? Can you please give me an outline to what it is? Is it necessary to burning a game? I know the basics, like I know what an Image file, and .iso, and rar are.
Another last point. Some of this game files are more than 4GB. That is almost more than a DVD disc. How are you supposed to fit it in? Is there a tool which lets you shrink the file? I have heard of DVD shrinker, but I dont really get it, coz, usually, when you decrease a file size, it usually loses quality. Doesnt this happen with the iso/image file or something?
My first game is still on its way, so I have had no oppotunity to try it out. This are all the questions I need to ask so far. I hope that these will be answered soon so that I ill be able to once again get a good nights sleep.
I am so sorry, I have never used this programme before, or anything similar. I have tried to search for guides on Alcohol 120% but couldn't find any, so please bear with me :S.
* Booktyping is not 100% necessary but from what i hear it is better to use as it acts as if the burnt DVD is a DVD-Rom bookmarking is only compatible with DVD+R's
* The .sfv file is not not needed for anything it is simple there like a NFO file just for info about it as you stated
* Yes you would burn using 'Image Burning Wizard' not 'Image making wizard' because you are burning not ripping.
* If a game is larger then 4.3GB it will most likely need to be rebuilt in order to work (search for ISO rebuilding)
* DVD Decrypter can be used for burning and ripping games you can use both ISO and MDS files to burn, if a MDS is present you must have the ISO with it.
* Mounting is basically placing the the image/ISO on something such as a disc.
Many thanks for your reply ^^, the answers were most helpful
I get it now. So if I use the DVD Decrypter to burn my ISO file that is already on my comp, I can miss out the 'read' step and skip to the write.
The game I am downloading have had quite a few problems with people trying to burn it. They recommend using Alcohol 120%. Will it make any difference whether I burn the game onto a CD or DVD? Is each game specified to a type of disk, either CD or DVD? Or can a game be burnt onto any disk type as long as it fits?
Can you give me an idea to which is better? Alcohol 120% or DVD Decrypter? Thanks. You said that if I have the .mds, I must have the .iso file. Which one do I burn to the disk then? If both, how to I select both? Is there an option on either programme to choose multiple files?
So, once I burn it to the disk, its finished?
I am a really fussy person. I am also a perfectionist. :P I like everything tobe just right beofre I go and do anything stupid.
Well if the files are bigger then 800MB then it can only be played on a dvd disc if it is below then it will fit on a cd... To me DVD Decrypter has always got the job done with no problems.... if you are downloading the backup just use write mode on DVD Decrypter to burn..... If you have a MDS and ISO then you can choose either ONE it won't really affect the burn.
And yes once the burn is done your finished and it should work fine, remember to burn @ at least half the max speed of the disc, 8x dvd-r's are recommended and should be burnt at the speed of 4x =)
