Just wondering if anyone might be able to help me understand my problem.

Just got the PS3 last night and hooked it up using my component cables from the PS2 I had. I have it hooked up to me Panasonic HDTV(model # PT53WX53G). It only supports 480P and 1080i.

The first game I put in was RR7 and it looked great and had no issues.

Next I put in Resistence: FOM and while it looked pretty good, I did notice like a bunch of silver dots all over the screen while playing. When I clear a level and go back to menu screens, it looks fine. But get to next level and the dots/little silver lines appear.

Next I tried NBA 2k7 and at the title screen, there are these little flashing silver things everwhere. I have never seen anything like it. When I play the game its not as bad, but just wondering why RR7 would have no problems, but these games have these little dots all over the screen.

I put in the Talledega Night movie and it looked decent, but not HD IMO. But no silver thingys everywhere either.

I have set up the output to be 480P/1080i in the setting screen.

Anyone else seen anything like this? Not sure why some would look great but others not so great.

ANy help would be appreciated.

Were there any updates available? Maybe that would help. I don't own a PS3 so I'm just guessing, I couldn't see it being the cables since some work and others don't.

yeah I had to do the 1.1 update as soon as I turned the machine on. So it should be updated.

Im not sure if this is the issue where the PS3 instead of going up to 1080i, goes to 480 P, but that still does not explain the little silver thingys all over.

sorry to say this but if your tv doesn't support 720p it will drop down to 480p instead of upcoverting to 1080i more focused on prgressive scan..Another thing make you sure your tv supports HDCP (high bandwith digital copy protection) which seem to mose cases in people problems and there tv, people should have done their homework before investing on a TV that was going to be used fo the PS3.

Dude, the TV was bought over 3 years ago so I would have had no idea it would not work with PS3.

How about PS3 is pile of crap?????? I have never had any problems playing any PS2 games at 480P. I play Socom 3 at 480 P on the same TV with no issue.

So why would this HDCP only seem to be an issue with the PS3, but not PS2??? My TV does not have HDCP.

isn't this more an issue with the PS3 not playing games at right resolution and not my TV????

Well didn't mean to bust your chops, but if you bought your tv 3 years ago its sound like you need a new tv. Now I know ppl who did buy their tv in later years they will have thses kind of porblems do to games that have 720p signal will drop to 480p because tv doesn't support 720p. Now the new firmware update should be able to fix that it's the 1.11 not the 1.10. Another thing I would like to add is that, knowing that you bought your tv 3yr ago I know you wouldn't have predicted the furture and seen if it was campatible with the ps3, but if you would have kept up with what was going on with the ps3 you would have known alittle more than you do now and have prevented problems for you or your tv.

it just makes no sense to me that PS2 can play games fine on my TV in 480P, but PS3 cannot. That is why I'm not sure it is my TV, but more an issue with PS3.

Also it seems to me that the issue is the PS3 should be upconerting to 1080i and not 480P. But like I said 480P games on this TV with PS2 look better than they do with the PS3. Thats total crap.

Sony should issue a statement saying if your TV is NOT 720p or 1080p don't waste your time because our system is crap and can't handle anything but these 2 resolutions.

ALso the update I donloaded last night was 1.11, not 1.10.

Correct me if I'm wrong but why would you use the supplied Composite(they are not Component) cables if you have HDTV??? You need to use HDMI Cables. That could be your problem cause I'm using a 27" JVC SDTV (480p) with Component cables and I've played all those games and I can tell you that Resistance looks amazing. I have yet to have a graphic hick-up at all. Maybe it's your TV since you said you've had it for like 3 years, technology changes so don't bash the PS3 for being better then your display unit. Try HDMI cables and if it still looks crappy then buy a new TV.

He didn't say composite, he said (component, big difference there). You can buy component cables for PS2. Two, I doubt his TV has HDMI if his TV is 3 years old. And especially since he said it didn't support HDCP, this would also mean that even if he did have a DVI input he could't even use a HDMI to DVI cable because the DVI input on his TV still wouldn't support HDCP.

are you serious??? I was going to get a HDMI cable and then an HDMI to DVI since my tv does have DVI, but you say that won't work???

will it work at all or no? Im have never heard of HDCP until today.

Thanks!!!!!!

Yea, if I'm wrong someone correct me but I'm pretty sure your TV has to support HDCP through DVI to be able to do that. It would probablly work as far as seeing picture when it is connected but they will be downconverted to 480p if your TV doesn't support HDCP. I know that is correct, the only thing I'm not sure about is wether the games have HDCP or not. I'm pretty sure Blu-ray movies do from what I've read. I think, but I'm not sure on either of the games or movies having HDCP. I don't own one so If someone with a PS3 can confirm this it would be appriciated.

no not all tv's support HDCP well aleast for older ones cjeack you manual and see what you can find. also have you tried setting the ps3 video settings to 1080i. that might fix the problem. Another thing would be investing in a newer tv if you can and thats if you want top preformence graphicly of the ps3. if that doean't work man I don't know what to tell you.

I will check this stuff out. I did plan on getting a new TV with 720p and 1080p, I was just hoping it would not be so soon.

I love my TV for all else, but I definitely may need to upgrade sooner than I had planned as I would be much happier with my games looking kick ass.

Thanks everyone!!!

Yeah that would be great idea man, the reason I waited so long to get my tv was because I didn't want to upgrade down the road and I do recommend get 1080p that way you have same problem when everything else is standard Full HD 1080p (direct tv or so)so you won't have to worry about upgrading for another 3-4 yrs. Good luck bro.
