I'm thinking about modding my Xbox 360 and I have a few questions

I just got a 360, I believe it's a Samsung, and bought GoW. I just have a few simple questions:

1. Is it safe to go on XBL with a modded Xbox?
2. Is there a risk of ruining my xbox when modding it?
3. How can I tell if my computer can burn dual layer dvds?

1. With the NME chip it is possible to go on xbl with a backup although it is not reccomended. If you use a original disc to go on xbl the chip shuts off automaticly so you will be safe.

2. It depends i would just send it in to get modded.
3. Not sure about this one.

Dont bother chipping it, just flash it with the firmware. Tutorials of which can be found everywhere.

The risk is very low when you flash firmware, its a lot lower risk than soldering a chip put it that way

Download DVD identifier. That will help you find out what your drive can do. What is the make/model of your drive?

XBox Live. What do you mean about the Firmware? I've updated it to play Gears of War, and then updated it when I connected to XBL.

Is it still possible to flash my 360?
