sorry if this has been asked before but what should i look for when i buy, some specifc drive?? are there any other things.

Well you are going to get a way better deal now that you have waited long enough. But as to what to look for when shopping, that depends on if you want to be able to mod or not. But for sure you should pick up a year of Xbox Live Gold, and now that have it in a bundle with MS Points, a headset, and Vision Camera. COD 3 is a good pickup as well as: Fear, Gears of War, Oblivion, and also be looking for Bioshock next year.

what about FW does it matter what FW it is or can al of the FW get modded?

All firmware revisions of the 360 can be modded. But the MS28 (Samsung) and the 0078FK (hitachi) are the pains in the asses. The 0078Fk is basically impossible unless you have the proper gear.. And you more than likely won't have that gear. Neither do I.

I've read on XS that there will a mod chip released for the 78 soon (Team Xecuter, I think). That should give some ppl an option, atleast.

Gotta look at the label on top of the dvd drive.... yep that means taking apart the 360.

Also there seems to be something to this 0078 or 00t0 as the last 4 digits on the number near the power connector. Seems alot of people with these 2 4-digit numbers end up with an 0078

You can still find them out there. I'd just avoid buying one at Best Buy or Gamestop. The link below is a good resource for finding a 360 with a desired drive. It's sorted by lot number which on the box so you can check it in the store.

Walmarts are getting the new ones pretty quick, too. I did get another ms25 last weekend at Kmart. And what about Sears? Don't they sell 360's and if so I'd imagine they don't get picked through too quickly.

I saw a MS25 in Target so you never know. Checking out the stores is the only way to know for sure.
