want to mod my xbox 360

Let me start by saying that I am not a newb to modding, just a newb to modding the xbox 360. I have modded all of my consoles (ps1, ps2, and xbox) but have not really followed modding on the 360. I have basically been waiting for my warranty to expire before I even thought about doing anything to my 360 and now that day has come.
I have read about several chips and the coolest thing I have seen so far is the NME 1.2 chip that team underdog offers. Does anyone have anything good/bad to say about this chip. In reading about it, it would appear that I can install this chip, and play backups (of games that I own) that I download off of newsgroups and play them without any problems.
Is there any chance of bricking my 360 with this chip (post-intallation) or being banned from xbox live?
My 360 auto-signs in to the live service, can I play backups logged into live as long as I don't go online with the game?
My goal is to install a chip, download backups, play backups not online but signed in to xbox live so I can see my friends list. Thanks for any help you guys may offer in advance!

Forget the chip. Just flash your drive. It has way more support and best of all it's free. BTW if you are on signed on to Live it makes little difference if you are actually playing the game on Live or not. The fact remains your Xbox is signed into Live has a back up in the drive. The good news is people have been playing Xbox 360 back ups on Live for over 6 months with no problems.

yeap just flash it.
lol y did you wait for your warrentee to be over then mod? You want to brick it and loose all your investments or seomthing? i hurried and got all modding done before 30 day store warrenty, so if i mess up i can exchange.

there was nothing available during my store return period, I got it right after launch. not to mention, there were no 360's to exchange it for! so, do you guys know of any tutorials out there that explain in extreme detail how to flash my firmware? thanks!

and if you have a Hitachi and live in the USA, and don't want to risk modding the 360 yourself... then send me your 360. I'll mod it for you and send it back next day. Just PM me for more info.

Yes both drives can be flashed
If u go to video.google.com
and type xbox 360one of the first xbox videos show how to flash the 360

I hate the tell yeah, but that what it takes. I think that is for the Samsung drive though.

OMG! so youve all done this procedure to get your xbox360 flashed!! god damn! i think the samsung is a beter easier cuz i have no idea were to get a resister from!!! and i have to open my computer!! i dunt no were to get a sata cable from! and i dun no were to plug the sata cable in on my pc? LOL me = noob!

I dont have my 360 flashed. I am like you I know very little about computers. I just learned it from being around afterdawn all the time. Plus my 360 broke on me before I got to try.

I couldn't give it back and get a new one because my warranty expired. It broke once and I sent it to microsoft and it casot me $160 and 3 weeks later I got it back. It broke again like a week later. So I sold it to some guy for $500 with 3 games who said he was gunna try to fix and mod it. O kinda like not having it because I am not constantly running out to buy $80 games so I can save my money.
