PLEASE HELP UPDATE PROBLEMS!!!!

Hi I am sorry if this is a waste of your time, a stupid quesion or posted in the wrong forum.

I just got a xbox 360 and wanted to play halo 2.
I put the disc in and sure enough the game starts fine. When i sign into xbox live. It says something like there is an important update needed. I select download and the old xbox update screen comes up (the green original xbox console one) the download progress bar stops in the middle. It then says something like the updated game will now start.
This is the problem my xbpx 360 freezes here. I waited like 15mins before finally restarting the xbox 360. I put in halo 2 and try to sign in it then says something like the update you aqquired is damaged or corrupt please try downloading again.
Ive done this over and over but still get the same result. THE XBOX 360 FREEZING AND THEN HALO 2 REJECTING THE UPDATE.

I know that the progress bar is not the problem because when i updated ghost recon 2 it went halfway aswell and i can go online with that game no problem.

Please help

just download this update and burn it to cd-r.
Boot it with your 360 and it'll automatically update. Then you should have no problems
