Firstly, hello, I've finally decided to sign up here! Any time I seem to have a PS2 related question Google always brings this site up so I thought I'd join. :)

Sorry about all the questions, I know a little - definately not a lot though!

Firstly my query is about the game in the title. If I borrowed it off a mate, could I make a backup of his version, and use it online?

I've read up and I believe I need a DNAS code? This would be a PAL game though, not NTSC, so how would I go about "Patching it"

Secondly, if I used his ID and we both played each other at the same time, would we get banned from online? I don't want to mess his online up!

By the way I'm using my 5 year old "FAT" PS2 and Swap Magic. If that makes any difference.

Thanks. :)

Don't waste your time, you can't get online with a backup of the PAL version of Subsistence anyway. Has some sort of protection.

Ah, just my luck!

What about the NTSC version, could I boot it on my PS2 using Swapmagic and go online?

Only if you use Paradox's Machine ID Changer to change the internal ID of your PS2 from PAL to a PAL/NTSC Hybrid which will enable you to play BOTH PAL & NTSC games online, otherwise you'll get an 833 Region Error.
And Machine ID Changer will ONLY work on old 'fat' PS2's versions 1-7.

Thanks very much mate!

And there's definately no protection on the NTSC version of MGS?

Sorry, last question I promise. :)

I'm guessing there is no protection on the NTSC version otherwise it would have been pointless to put the DNA code in the NTSC DNAS List. The dna is:

Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistance (SLUS_212.43) (Disc 2)
(Size = 5,716,228 bytes)
Disc ID: XX XX 00 30 BC
