ok i have had my ps2 moded for the last 2 - 3 years, it worked great for the longest time reading everything i threw at it, and now all of a sudden it's having reading problems, it's a scph - 30091 version 5 i believe and has a magic V in it. lately it won't read backups and sometimes has problems with originals as well i will fight with it for like 20 minutes and it jus keeps coming up as the browser and then going to the red screen, i already opened it up and found that all wires were connected properly i have tried holding the button in and everything i am so lost i have been even thinking of buyin a new pre moded ps2 can some plz help me out. thanx

sounds like the laser has lived a long and prosperous life, unfortunately, they do not last forever.

IF it is indeed the laser you can replace the assembly and it'll be fixed, but it's purely a guess and witout having it here to check myself i can't say for sure that is the problem. it's your call.

use google to search around the net for PS2 parts and find one that matches your laser model.

All you need is the laser not the whole drive "assembly".

Also before you buy a new laser try cleaning the lens with rubbing alcohol and a q-tip. If that doesnt help you might be able to adjust the pot on the back of the laser to turn up the juice to the laser and get a little more life out of it. Have a look at this link.
