when you burn a dvd, the data side of the dvd has to be a single color when it is properly burnt. but, when i burn a dvd with more than 4000MB data, regardless of the format (ISO, MPG or what ever) threads, (the data lines, in a manner of speaking) are visible in the last half centimeter or so. basically, there are very thin lines of alternating color. however, rest of the disk is fine. when i play the disk, the fist portion plays well. however, when it comes towards the last part, the dvd get's stuck. I use Nero 6.0 to burn dvds.
I had thid problem on my original dvd drive (SONY DW-D22A)> i tried updating bios and everything from Intel website and updating the firmware. but it didn't work. so i bought another dvd drive (NEC ND-3550A). it worked ok for about a year. i updated the firmware too. but recently it is showig hte same symptoms.
could it be because of over using the witer, or because of a bios problem? if can someone please help me, i'd really appreciate that.
most of the times when a dvd get's stuck or frezzes up it is because of cheep media or burning to fast, also burning to close to the edge of the dvd will also cause problems.good luck happy burnung have a nice day

A common problem with mismatched or poor media. Set your size to less than the max, i.e. 4300 instead of 4464 etc. if you want to use the media. You could run a 'Transfer Rate' test in Nero CD-DVD Speed and note exactly where the read problems occur and choose a lower max size from it's results.
This is what a bad read might look like, limiting these discs to < 4.1G would probably work.
