Booting HDloader from HD

I'd like to use my PS2 + HD combo as a standalone system that boots HDloader straight from HD. Since my console is chipped with Matrix Infinity that should be basically possible by installing HDloader to HD as default boot file in dev2 mode and setting PS2 to autoboot from dev2, but I've heard that for some reason HDloader doesn't work correctly as renamed to BOOT.ELF and installed to HD: If that's correct is there any alternate methods to go round that problem?

Yeah, I tried it too and it worked flawlessly as-is, maybe those problems occur only with some other modchips.
