Is it possible to boot directly from HD without any CD/DVD in ps2?

if you have a fat ps2 and use the memory card exploit.

But don't you still have to have a PS1 cd in the drive? I was just wondering if you could boot without anything in the drive at all.

Yeah, you cant run the exploit without a ps1 game.
Unless you had a modchip that could boot straight off the hdd or flash chip etc.
