I downloaded a game and extracted it with WinRAR. There were four files, .001 .002 .003 and .004 I joined these files using Simple File Joiner and it came up with one tao file. Now I don't know what to do with this file. Should i rename it to iso?

You don't do any file joining or renaming. The files you have (.001, .002 etc..) are compressed spanned archives that contain the iso file. You use WinRAR to extract the iso from those files.
Open WinRAR, highlight the 1st file & click 'Extract To..' then OK, and your iso will extract.

In future forum search, as this is asked several times a week.

hmmm,not always ace1uk
sometimes you get the odd set of files,that are made by some idiot

@fireman50,you can try this

open the smallest of the .00 files with isobuster,and on the left hand side column,where it says "session 1",right click on this,and select extract session 1 <image>/user data *tao,*iso
this may join all 4 files together to give you 1 image,rename the extension from .tao back into .iso.

if not,fook knows

still no luck. theres a file thats called DVD. whenever i click it, it opens up in DVD Decrypter and the program gets ready to burn the game. I think it would work if I burnt it like that but i have to make the game smaller. its 4.36 gb in size so I'm not sure it would work with Swap Magic. Any suggestions?

since clicking on the file brings up DVD Decrypter automatically, have you tried just burning the file to see if in fact it does or doesn't work? the only time to rebuild a game or shrink it is after you have tested it and see that it doesn't work. Even when i used Swap Magic way back in the 2.0 days i never rebuilt anything unless i did 2 things.
1. i searched the forums here on that game name to see if anyone else had a problem that they posted about.
2. if not then i just tried burning a copy (uless it was over 4.5GB)

Personally i hate people who can not make a proper rar file and usew those annoying splitter programs instead. On a good online site will will rarely if ever see those files after you DL them.
