Got my modded Xbox 360 and to my misery i found it was an Hitachi drive. Now i have heard that you need to update this drive with the latest firmware to play latest games. True?
-Now when i burn a game and put it in my 360, how will i know that the game is not working because of the old firmware?
-How do i determine the firmware version?
Please reply! thanks!

I don't know if you know this, but you even had it been a Samsung, you still would've had to update the firmware. You can just play backups from the get-go, no matter which drive you have. Hitachi's aren't anything to be miserable about: I've got one and it's worked perfectly for me.
In my experience, the age of the firmware with the Hitachi's doesn't seem to cause much hassle so long as you've got good media. I've got version 1.3- its a modified version of the one you can get on the net, but basically, it'd be the same - and I haven't had a single game that I couldn't fully play yet.

Exactly Right. You never know what microsoft will do but
the only times you need to flash are if you want to take advantage of being current around Microsoft's attempts to prevent the firmware hack from working. So far it seems only publishers are trying to combat it by placing the security sector in different spots.

How do u determine which FW you have got?
Also, i want to update my Xbox 360 with the recent patch. Now what if my FW is old and i update the box? Is there any chance of screwing up anything?

If I was you, I'd only bother updating if your current firmware is giving you trouble. I can see what other people mean when they say keep up to date for better protection against possible bans by Microsoft, but you've got to be realistic here: if Microsoft wanted to ban us, they could, and I doubt any version of firmware will fool their efforts.

No, I can have my 360 apart in 3 minutes and very easy to open the side case of my cpu. 10 minutes from non-flashed to flashed.

Some people with call the whole computer box a CPU, but CPU first stood for Central Processing Unit and still does. The Pentium or AMD chip inside a PC is it's CPU.

Hey Memnock, is Sonic and Superman worth burning? I haven't gotten around to burning them yet as I've heard they suck.

I'm a huge Superman fan so I can find that one enjoyable. You may not like it as much if you aren't a fan, because it's has problems and is crazy short. Flying at super speed though is awesome and no one can deny that. I hit 25% complete after playing it for barely 2 hours. BTW it's best the play with the original movie soundtrack music streaming from your hard drive. The in game music sucks.
Sonic on the other hand is God awful especially when you compare it the the Sonic Adventure games on Dreamcast. Kids MAY like it. I probably want to give it one more try just to make sure, but so far Sonic gets my vote as worst game of the year. However it does have some great looking cut scenes. Then again the cut scenes are another problem for me, because they look like they belong in a Final Fantasy game, not Sonic.

I haven't played that one since I was never a huge Bomberman fan and heard that one really sucked. However, I heard Sonic is right there with it though from people who've played both. I'll put it like this. While Kameo was decent IMO, Sonic The Hedgehog makes it look like one of the greatest games ever made.

Sonic isn't too bad if you get a bit into it. There's some parts where the speed really picks up.
But yeah, it's got a load of problems.

FYI, i downloaded Gears of War (Super360 version, pre-patched and all) and it works fine on my Xbox 360 (used Imation DVDR DL). What was strange though was that before my 360 could run the game, it asked a update to be installed. I presumed it will need to connect to the internet for that but i still selected to update my console even though it was NOT connected to the internet. But the console still managed to update and then the game ran fine after it restarted itself! WTF?
Now can someone please answer this question- How do i determine my FW version?? Been asking for a long time here but no one replies to it. Please do!

Your firmware version?Do you mean your flashed xtreme version? If so that depends what version you flashed it with obviously. Or do you mean your original drive's firmware? If so take the 360 apart, and it will be printed on the sticker ontop of the dvd

I actually got a pre-modded 360. I do not know the person who flashed it. How do you check your FW then?

You can't unless they gave you a copy of your original fw and key. But rest assured if you have a hitachi drive, you don't even need your original firmware. Just restore and then flash

Turn it on, press eject, place the disc in the tray, close the tray and play :) That's all you have to do with a modded 360.
