It plays on the pc w/ the full picture, but when I burn it to a DVD it's 16:9 w/ the ends cut off. The DVD plays on the pc in 16:9 as well as the DVD player.
Any ideas?
I dwnldd the latest trial version of DVDFab Pltnm and then I use Roxio Disc copier.
I've Googled and searched forums to no avail. All help will be greatly appreciated.

What mode did you selected (i.e. Widescreen or Fullscreen) when you transcoded?

More info:
I've been doing this for awhile w/ DVDShrink w/ no problems. This is a recent problem since I've had to start using DVDFab Express because of the inablity of DVDShrink to work on newer DVDs.
It's not the end of the world if I can't get this fixed, but it's nice to back up my frequently watched DVDs and STILL see the extra-wide screen material.

For the love of Pete! Where do I do that? I've seen it mentioned, but the are so very, very, very few options. Am I retarded?

I jusy noticed under the Split option, it shows the Aspect Ratio as 16:9. The box for Last Of The Mohicans says 2.35:1.
Can I set it to leave it at 2.35:1?

No you're not retarded, but sometimes a DVD/movie comes with 2 versions (widescreen and full screen), so you'll need to delete the other one and keep what you want only. That's why I've always suggest VobBlanker (it's FREE), so you can simply "delete" the other.

I take it that you want "Full screen" right? But after transcoding, it played as Wide screen 16:9 right? Other things to look for is the setup/settings via your TV and DVD player. Make sure it's under "Full screen" instead of "Wide screen".
Since you have DVD Shrink already, why use DVDFAB Platinum when you can simply use DVDFAB Decrypter (FREE, to rip) and ImgBurn (FREE, to burn)?
It is recommend to always keep all your tools updated, regardless if it's "retail" or "free".
2 of the best FREE methods are DVDFAB Decrypter & RipIt4Me
Get latest DVDFAB Decrypter here http://www.dvdidle.com/free.htm
Get VobBlanker 2120B8 here http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=903803#post903803
NOTE: all tools are FREE included in the guides. So just read and follow them carefully and you'll be able to rip and backup any DVDs around the world.
DVDFAB Decrypter +DVD Shrink + ImgBurn guide for newbies. Simply skip #2 VobBlanker, unless DVD Shrink has encountered an error and can not continue, or unless you're an advanced user and know where/what to delete/blank out.
Rip any DVDs with RipIt4Me +DVD Shrink + ImgBurn guide for newbies.
Best of luck!!

Awsome bunch of information!
I did use the free version, but tried the Platinum version to see if there were settings to keep the 2.35:1 and 1.85:1 aspect ratios. DVDShrink was fine except for the increasing number of movies it can't copy.
Where does it fall apart? With DVDFab or Roxio Disc Copier? The DVDFab "files" play in their 2.35:1 and 1.85:1 aspect ratios on the pc. But when burned they go into 16x9. I've even tried Nero to burn DVDFab's files. Still 16x9.
Thanks,

Can you check your already burned backup with VobBlanker to see what's the actual ratio?
Honestly, that's odd to me, meaning if you've successfully ripped as "full screen", transcoded it and burned it, but once it played, it showed "16:9 Wide screen".
Like I've said earlier, check your TV and DVD players setup/settings to make sure it's not set on 16:9 Wide screen instead of "full screen".

just passing thru. my favourite trick is to use DVDFab to rip the entire disc to hard drive, then let DVD Shrink do all of it's usual magic, that way i don't have to guess which title is the widescreen version or use other tools to verify :)

I can't find Princess Mononoke (1.83:1), my daughter has put it who knows where. But I have the DVDFab produced files. They show up in VobBlanker as 16:9 (1.78:1). Maybe a seeminingly negligible difference, but when viewed on DVD, it chops a good bit off of the sides. I've paused it in the beginning to pinpoint certain features in the picture and compared it.
Very important: The files on the computer have the sides (minus the .05:1). The movie, when viewed on the TV is missing noticeably more.
I have a Sony SXRD 60" w/ the typical Sony settings: Normal, Full, Zoom, and Wide Zoom. No matter the setting, it has the sides cut off.
This definitely has happened frequently lately because the black bars are missing at the top and bottom on movies that have them on the original disk.
On The Last Of The Mohicans, everything is fine. Go figure. Some other DVDs have been, too. That is, they have the black bars at the top and bottom. Princess Mononoke is not. And so have several others. Mission Impossible 3 is another that didn't work. Watching it from the copy feels cramped with the shortened picture.
Only just having realized all of this, I only just started checking files vs./ DVDs.
Has no one else been getting shortened pictures? I just figured that it was the new types of protection causing fidgits in the process.
MI3 is a good test. Not many people will probably have Princess Mononoke.
Thanks for the input and trouble,

Oh yeah,
vobBlanker does say that the files on the pc are 16:9. But so are the ones for The Last Of The Mohicans, and it DOES have the black bars on the top and bottom on the pc and on the DVD.

If VobBlanker showed 16:9, then it's Wide screen, not Full screen. Meaning you've transcoded it as Wide screen instead of "Full screen".

But how? There is no option in DVDFab to do Wide screen vs. Full screen. We're at the mercy of DVDFab.
Princess Mononoke and The Last Of The Mohicans do copy well on DVDShrink, but I just use DVDFab now, because I got tired of DVDs not working on DVDShrink.

Before ripping the movie, DVDFAB Decrypter will tell you if the movie is in "Wide screen" or "Full screen" when you click on or rip just the Main Movie.
Look at pic. for reference:

Nearly 90% DVDs/movies comes with "Wide screen 16:9" nowadays. That being said, maybe you could have ripped your movie as 16:9 and didn't noticed, especially when you ripped it as a Full Disc Mode using DVDFAB Decrypter.

Ok...let's beat a dead horse.
Casino Royal is... now get this....2.40:1. Ok?
DVDFab calls it 16:9. Then it chops off the ends of the movie as it blows it up to fill the screen vertically.
Anyone else annoyed by this?
Or even willing to admit that it does this? DVD Shrink doesn't have a problem with extra-wide screen formats, but it can't copy Casino Royal.
Could someone email the fellows at Fengtao to see if they could fix this? Love the program, otherwise. I would pay a big chunk of cashola for whatever version could copy extra-wide screen formats.
Thanks,
Zed

It's always the user and never the programs. What did you set to get it to work properly?

wow, alkohol is physic, he posted the answer in december for a question in march,
LOL ;)
BTW, there are different aspect ratios for widescreen(2.40:1, 2.35:1 and so forth), however it will always say 16x9 for widescreen on the programs and tvs
