How to make a demo DVD? Not Easy!!!

Folks,
I just finished my Home Theater - it kicks! Now I want to compile about 10 scenes from different movies (good surround sound scenes) and compile them on my own DVD to show off the system. Please don't yell at me for wanting to pirate - I own the original DVD! The demo DVD I want to make is for my own private use.
My Needs:
1) I need to be able to "grab" small scenes in various chapters.
2) It needs to retain the video (widescreen) quality & audio quality (surround, etc)
3) Needs to then be able to burn compilation to DVD+R
I've tried Adobe Premiere Pro - but it doesn't seem to let you "capture" DVD stuff - only stuff from MiniDV tapes...
I'm also running AnyDVD (By slysoft) to "unlock" the DVD.
But I can't seem to find any software that lets you do what I need. I've tried Adobe Premiere Pro, Pinnacle Studio 10.x, Roxio, and Nero 7. None let you "edit" the timeline, or give you full control of the video/audio editing...
What's the best way to do this?
What software can someone recommend?

there are many ways/paths you can take to do what you want. I notice you specifically want to show off/ test you surround sound...so a DVD authoring tool which supports authoring with DTS surround would be helpful? DVDLabPro/ Adobe Encore
You want to "grab" whole .vob(with AC3 5.1/DTS 5.1)...you'll first need to decrypt those DVD's( be sure to include the DTS(surround sound) and write this to HD Video_TS folder.
Then you can us Video_ReDO to grab whole segments of .vob(including the AC3/DTS tracks. Save these segments then import into your authoring program.
EDIT: Ok, i just re-read your post..so not only do want to author with these clips, but you want to combine these clips in a single Movie? Hmmm, now you have a slight problem...most NLE(non linear editors) like primere Pro, etc...(1) only support AVI( DV capture) and (2) don't support AC3 import...much less 5.1 channels. You might try Liquid or Sony Vagas? I hear they support multi audio track (5 channel Import? but I could be mistaken(i've been acused of this before) Premiere Pro 2 supports import of .mpeg-2(mpv,m2v) the video stream..you could Demux the audio/video....then transcode(downmix) the 5.1 to a 2channel PCM then It would import into PremierePro...when finished with your editing Export to your encoder(hopefully you still have use of your Surcode Dolby 5.1 surround encoder) and Voili back in business with a Mpeg with Surround Sound.
But, it would be simplier to just keep the sample clips as seperate movies and make transitions/menu to connect them.

Wow - you know what you're talking about...
Yes - each scene will be a seperate "clip", which then each will be dragged onto a timeline and seperated with a transition (at least that was the plan)...
That said - does it change anything you just suggested?

Well, depends on if we're "on the same page" on what you mean by that above. Are you talking about dragging each "clip" or movie to a seperate Movie timeline in Dvd_LabPro? and then making menu/transitions between them? Or are you talking about dragging the "clips" into NLE(like Primere Pro) and making transitions between clips...but finally only having 1 Movie? Cause this second option seems strung out and more complicated....much easier to just create seperate movies with the authoring software and transition between then...especilly if the clips are unrelated(or make a corherent PLOT)
Don't forget you always have to have a 2 channel AC3, PCM, or Mp2(m2a) audio for each movie....the DTS 5.1 is an optional Add-On. I'm not sure if the Dolby 5.1 can serve alone on a DVD or not( can't remember- if it's flagged as "downmixable" it should automatically downmix to 2 channels when that's all you have thus would seem to fill that important spec for DVD complient.

I wouldn't want to lose the DTS or audio surround...
Maybe it IS easy just buying a demo DVD...
Are there any -good- ones out there you can recommend?

hmmm, yes buying a demo disk or just playing the one's you have would be cheaper than running out and buying DVD_LabPro2 or Adobe Encore + VideoReDo....but making YOUR OWN demo disk..would be so much more fun(wouldn't it!) then creating many DVD's with DTS/Dolby Surround would be educational + fun! You already have the Slyfox( you're only a hop skip and jump from Making your own High Quality Semi-Pro Looking DVD's complete with Surround Sound...since you're only talking about a demo disc with small clips, you could probably fit all that on a DVD-5. But for full backup's of complete movies with DTS remaining...you'll need to go to DL media. I don't know of any specific demo discs...but I'm sure someone here does. Great to hear you Theater is Kicking Butt!

Will DVD_LabPro2 do everything I need? Capture, allow edit (chopping scenes up), and burn?

I used NeroVision Express 3 (with the 5.1 plug-in) to make a Dolby demo disc with all the various opening logos I collected. Very Impressive, unfortunately I should have trimmed some of the black as you realy can't see the transitions I applied. But it sure fills the room. The THX ones really rock.

But how did you capture the movie scenes to splice them together?
I cannot seem to find an easy way to capture the scenes (and edit out the stuff I don't want)...
I don't think Nero Express does that part, does it?
Can you provide details?

I didn't capture any scenes. The Dolby logos/intros were VOB's. I would imagine you could load the VOB (have them ripped to your HD) that contains the segment you want into NVE and use the trim function (it's a little tricky) to get what you want and then use NVE's 'Export' function to save it. Edit Movie-> Trim, then hit Export and save. Keep repeating with the next VOB till you have what you want then load them all into NVE, add your transitions and finish. Note you can also adjust the volume while in Edit mode.

It's for Nero 6, I have no experience with 7. I had thought I could use it to convert sound to 5.1 (at first it seemed possible but there were major audio sync issues) it's only a decoder. Maybe I'll try it again.
That said it's still usefull when using a 5.1 source in NVE.

Is that kosher? I mean you're not suppost to be putting your serial number out there...I'm sure If I go to Nero...I could probably find a "multi-channel decoder" plug-in for Nero 7... hmmm, right it's just a decoder.....would need a encoder plug-in to author dvd's with 5.1 sound.

That's not the real serial number if that's what you mean.
But you got me wondering, and checking Ahead's site it says it's also an encoder now. I'll have to play with it a bit and see what's up. Hit Buy Now and it also mentions Nero 7.
