Can i flash a Samsung drive with the same SATA chipset that worked with my Hitachi drive

That depends what the Sata chipset is, you would have to let us know.

I just to know if the SATA chipset that is needed is for both kinds of drives.

Was it an onboard Sata, if so what is the model of your motherboard?Or have a look under IDE controllers in control panel device manager. If it was a PCI sata, have a look under SCSI and RAID controllers in device manager

I think, but am not 100%, that that board has a Intel ICH5 chipset. Which works fine, and usually doesnt require hex editing. However,have a look under IDE controllers in control panel device manager, just to double check, What does it list under IDE controllers?

Hmmm your SATA isnt listed there. However, I am pretty sure its a ICH5 so you should be good to go. That will be fine for a sammy
