im thinking about buying an xbox360 for my son for xmas. However just like his ps2 games he is only young and he has a habit of scratching them. So I added a mod chip to the ps2 so i could back his games up and keep the originals as master copies.

Am I able to do the same with the xbox? If so what sort of modchip should I get for it?

Ive tried finding out the info on this forum but have actually read two conflicting posts so am a little confused by it all.

Thanks for the help

The best route to go down is to flash the firmware rather than chip it. Its easier, safer, and at the moment gets better results. You will need a Sata card capable of doing this. You may already have an onboard sata card that can get the job done. Are you in the UK?

Sorry, forgot to add, here he is a good link to a tutorial for flashing - http://www.360mods.net/Downloads/details/id=61.html

Thanks for the reply mrlip. I am in Australia not the UK.

After reading the tutorial Im confident I can do it but I just have a couple of questions.

1. The tut says I need sata drivers installed. I have 3 hdd's on my pc two IDE and 1 SATA (connected to onboard SATA) so can I assume the drivers are aleady installed?

2. My mobo is a Intel La Crosse D865GLC which isnt listed on the list of SATA/MTKflash compatibility for onboard SATA. Does this mean I cant do it or just that its never been tested yet?

Thanks again.

3. Will this work with the most recent xbox 360 consoles? I read somewhere that they are different and cannot be flashed? Although I could have got it wrong.

1. The drivers are installed if you have a sata hd hookedup. May or may not be if you don't have a sata hd hooked up.

2.I would try you mobo first, and then if you can pick up the drive buy a pci-sata.

3.It all depends on what dvd drive is in the 360.
Samsung ms 25 and 28 are flashable, philps is not. Hittiach one of them isn't flashable not sure which one.
