Hi how do you copy PS2 games? Sorry to ask you this but I've been looking into this for ages, do you know how to do this, and if so do you need to chip your PS2. Please Reply. James.

Yes, you need a modchip.. i have a solderless modchip. but there's a new kind of modchip that's suppose to be easier to install than the one i have (which was easy) you'll need to find out what PS2 Version u have (mine is version 5)...u need a Dvd burner (mine is a DVD+R) ... u need a coder (i have game shark...for PS 1 and PS 2) .... u need program that will make a .gi file from your PS 2 game and then burn it onto a DVD.. i have the program called RECORDNOW Max.. works very good.. there's a trial one u can download off the internet .... hope that helps :)

Hi, I have heard of a software which you can actually copy ps2 games without having a DVDRW or anything else, just a CD RW, do these things really work? Could you just download a game and put it onto CD? Please Reply. James.

Well, technically I'm not supposed to talk any specifics on this as it violates the rules of the forum, but who cares. Some PS2 games are small enough to fit onto CD-R, but you'll always need a dvd-rom to access the information on any original PS2 disc. Those pop ups and web ads telling you "BURN PS2 AND XBOX GAMES IN MINUTES" yeah whatever... there total bull...do some more diggin on google and you should be able to find a toolkit, or walkthrough of what programs to use to be able to copy most PS2 games (most of these programs are freelance open source software) BUT! you can only copy the game if you're making a personal backup for yourself.

I also have a question on copyright issues... does anyone know what happens if you own a game for a certain platform, and you copy or download the same game for a differnt version.. for instance.. I own HALO for XBOX.. but the PC version is coming out in a few weeks, am I legally allowed to copy or download the PC version?

iterpit2u - Yes, you can, if the game data on the Ps2 game disc is under 700mb, or you are able to downsample it enough so it will fit onto a 700mb cd. you must have the original game disc though so you can extract the files off them and put it on a CD-R, but you'll need a mod chip or a swap disc to play it wether it's a CD-R or DVD-R.
jamesino - there is currently no way to make a selfbooting backup of a PS2 game disc. you can make a copy of the game using a DVD-Rewriter, but you'll need to chip it, or get a swap disc or external usb mod chip for your PS2
