I have an infocus x1 projecto capable of 1080i or 720p resolution.

Right now i have a yamaha dvd player and an onkyo reciever and use the component video out and connect to the projector via a component to vga adapter .. which is only 480p from what i gather. I want to take advantage of the 1080i. so my question is what to get for a dvd player.. I have an huge DivX collection that i would still like to be able to watch (my yamaha plays them now) and i was thinking of maybe a Dvd recorder so i could back up my wifes old home movies for her family that way rather than on the computer.. which takes a while..

also i would like one with a TV tuner built in since.. lol projectors dont come cable ready. I have heard though that some of the tv tuning dvd players make you go into setp and chance the imput everytime you want to watch cable.. Also i would like to only connect the hdmi to the projector .. so one thing that confuses me is can the cable tv come from the hdmi on the unit or is it a straight pass through? i have regular composite inputs so i could do that if i had to but it would be nice to upconvert the cable to 1080i too :)

so i need a dvd/divx playing DVDR with Hdmi output and tv tuner.
if the tv tuner wont display from the hdmi cable.. than its not important.. The DVDR feature isnt all that important too.. but would be nice to have..

any suggestions? Price is somewhat important.. i dont want to have to spend more than 150-200 and as soon as i find something that will work nicely

The problem is the X1 doesn't have an HDMI input.

Yes you can.

lol then screw hdmi :)

well i could get a hdmi to vga adapter and make the hdmi work from the dvd player..

so maybe my dvd player just doesnt support 1080i... 480p is all i get through that thing

so would i be best to invest in an upconverter?

This may be a little off topic. But i was doing a little research for you and found a review of your projector.

http://www.digit-life.com/articles2/infocus-x1/

Anyways this may be discouraging but i thought i should meantion it. The infocus x1 projector is only 800x600 Native resolution. This projector is capable of a 720p or 1080i Input, but it will not even output a true 720p picture. 720p being 1280x720.

You will not see an advantage with 1080i, since your native res is only 800x600 (SVGA).

So before buying any more equipment, i would look around for a different projector is you want HD quality.

I know we dont need any of this technology. :)

Just wanted to give you a heads up before investing any more funds into a project. You seemed really hyped about 1080i, thats why i made my post. Becasue with your present projector, you wouldnt been that impressed in 720p, let alone 1080i.

For anything in the 600ish range, your kinda stuck with 800x600 if you want a decent contrast ratio etc.

for a 1280x720 16x9, or a 1024x768 4/3 projector; it will run ya from $1500 all the way to $3000+. I saw a couple dell projectors that were 1024x768 selling for under $1000 at thanksgiving. For anything that will give you 1080i/p you will need to spend alot more. Ie, the Benq W10000 is $9999
