I have some dvd media (cheap) that occasionally pixelates or pauses on some scenes when playing in my standalone but is perfect playback in my pc running power dvd 4 xp. Can i backup these backups onto good media i.e ritek g04 (which will hopefully play in my standalone samsung s224 with no glitches)? or is it the player at fault? Time to clean laser?. Hard to say really , but has anyone had similar experiences?

By the way 54% of these discs are 100% playback perfect and the minor glitches are just that (1 or 2 per film lasting a millisecond) 59p each aint bad for what ya get...

If you have a seperate DVD-Rom drive you can copy directly on the fly with Nero for example. The copy should be fine since reading the original disc in order to copy is not the same as playing it. I would seriously recommend changing the discs you are using. See my test thread here: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/39325

Double your 59p to discs to £1.18. Thats more than a single Ritek G03 or G04. Since you can buy G03's for 79p and G04's for 99p lets work out if 54% is a good percentage success rate.

Take 100 blank G03 media discs. You bought them for 79p. They therefore cost you £79. You are virtually guaranteed a good burn each time with them. Meaning that all 100 discs are brnt successfully.

Now take the £59 bundle of 100 Discs you actually bought. You have a success rate of 54% so that would mean that £31.88 of your discs were succesfull. Thats 54 discs as opposed tp the 100 successful G03's. So, you have to buy another 100 of your £59 bundle discs and again 54% success rate (average). That would mean that £63.72 of your discs will be fine and you will have 100 hundred good discs.

With the Ritek G03 method, you would have paid £79 for 100 good discs. With your method you paid £63.72 for 100 good discs, and you went to your fire place and through £54.28 into it and burnt it.

So spend £119 for 100 cheap discs that may not work on some dvd players, or buy the better discs for £79. I know what i would do. Even if you choose Ritek G04's, thats still £99 as opposed to £119. Yuo save a minimum of £20 per every hundred you buy.

Now bare in mind, i probably haven't read your question correctly, but i've done a lot of typing and im not going to change my anser now lol :-)

Thanks for the comments chaps, basically backing up what I suspected anyway.. I'm still tempted to get 25 clone riteks but have got these crap ones to get through first unless i can sell em off on ebay/ebid... However for 25 it works out at £1.60 roughly each from which is a lot more than 59p (65p inc vat/postage?) so still over £1.19 (£1.30 inc vat/post) each.. But yes i agree why go through all the grief of coasters and non compatibility with other players. Do these ritek g04's have good compatibility with standalones though, has there been a test done??

79p for a g03 where from? and vat and postage? and do you have to order a large quantity to get 79p?.

Thanks

Steve
