swap magic and backup of action replay 10 max! works kinda

i have a v.2 ps2 and swap magic 3.6 disks. i downloaded action replay from this address http://www.i'manidiot.com edited by ddp i can boot it with swap magic and play original games with codes activated. i cannot play backups with it though.
these are my steps:

1. boot swap magic
2. swap in action replay
3. load codes
4. once it tells me to make sure new game is inserted, i eject the drive and insert swap magic again.
5. once that loads i insert my game.

it goes to the loading screen and then goes to the ps2 screen (where it shows you memory cards and the game your loading) with a ps2 disk. i try to load it but it goes stright back. i do not have a memory card in this whole time. i heard that it can mess up the booting. also im not sure if i should be ejecting the drive or should i use the swap method for that too? should i be doing something different? im not sure if anyone has gotten this to work or not in the past. i read through other threads already and everyone pretty much says they get a red screen.

any replys would be great!

You need a Swap Magic fixed version of MAX to work with Swap Magic, which that probably isn't, and even then it's still a bit dodgy.
Better off looking for 'Codebreaker v9.2 cracked'. Its a much better device & works 100% with backups & swap magic.
