Hiya!
I have posted a few threads before in this forum requiring about how to burn a game. I have finnal done it, and it was successful first time round ^^. I can play the game on my PS2.
I was thinking that should my game on the disc fail, I would need to burn another version. I cannot afford to waste 1.4 GB of my Hard disk, so I am going to put the game files onto my disc. This is my question:
Can I just put the one .iso file onto my disc? Or Do I have to put the whole 42 .r00, .r001 etc WITH the .iso file? I presume that both will work individually, I mean, I can put the .iso file onto my disc without putting the .r001, .r002 files. And I can also put the .r001 and .r002 etc onto the disc without involving the .iso file, as I can always extract it again. Is this true?
Which way would you recommend?#
thnx, this will be my last question ever...until more probs pop-up :P

ummm im 99.999999% sure that you can only put the iso on the dvd for the ps2 to able to read it. For most games, i doubt you could even fit all those files on a standard 4.7 gig blank dvd. Dont bother putting in the .r001 and so on. they were there only to compress the file so it would be faster to upload them to you

Games are usually distributed in a number of RAR-archives (compressed files). This has been done to facilitate the actual download of the release. You only need to extract the first file in the sequence (usually named game.rar or game.r001/.001) and the rest of the files will be uncompressed automatically. When the files have been extracted (uncompressed), a CD/DVD image file will be produced. The CD/DVD image is an exact digital replica of a CD/DVD, whereby all of the data is stored in one file to completely preserve the data structure and integrity of the CD/DVD. Some common disk image formats include: .BIN/.CUE, .IMG, .NRG, .MDF/.MDS, .CCD, and .IMG. These disk images can be burned using software such as Nero, Alcohol 120%, DVD Decrypter, and ImgBurn. See the sticky threads at the top of the PS2 DVD Backup forum if you need help in using these programs.
In short, typically, games are split into several compressed files. These files are usually found in RAR format and usually suffixed with .rar/.r00#/.00# file extensions. When these files are extracted (uncompressed), they 'come together' and produce a single image file (most commonly in .ISO format) which you can burn onto a CD/DVD.
I realize you were unsure/confused but what you were implying was to put BOTH the .ISO file and the RAR files onto a disc... you wouldn't need to put two copies of a single game on a disc, would you? (I am not implying putting solely RAR files onto a disc would be playable on a PS2, because it would not). Besides, as the previous poster has said, with a reasonably sized game, you would exceed the maximum amount of space on the disc with both the .ISO and RAR files included.
So to answer your question, you ONLY need to burn the .ISO file onto your blank disc for it to be playable on your PS2.

it depends what you want. If you want to have a back up to your game then i would just take the ISO and burn it to 2 discs, one to use and one for a back up copy.
You could also take the rar files and make a data disc from them but of course this disc would just be a data back up and not a playable disc. and having never done that i can not be 100% sure that when you try taking the rar files back off the disc to the PC to unrar them that all will work.
your best bet is option one, when you test the game and know it works, just take the ISO and burn it again to a second (back up) disc.

NonConGuy and Orthogonly, I have already burnt my PS2 game. You have got it totally wrong. I know what a rar file is, and I know how to extract and get the .iso. What I meant was what steimy answered. I said: "should my game on the disc fail". I only wanted to keep a data disc version of the game, I am not intending to play this disc in my PS2, coz I have already got one. What I am saying is that when my Game fails, I will have to go and download the whole game again, whereas I can just take it off the data disc and burn it once again.
Thanks anywas ^^.

I apologize, due to the way your worded your post, I misinterpreted your post, I am not the only one.

Okay, so you have working backup of a game and you want to have a backup, just in case it 'fails'.
What would the point of putting both the .ISO and RAR files on the same disc, or just the RAR files on a separate disc? In the first case, it is totally unnecessary to have both on a disc, having just the .ISO burned on to another disc would be enough. In the second case, putting solely the RAR files on to a data disc would just create more work for you, you would need to extract the .ISO and use up ANOTHER disc if you wanted a playable copy. I could see one case(unless of course you wanted to put other files ie. programs, videos, pictures whatever on to your data disc... otherwise assuming the sole reason you want to create a backup is if your original copy fails you will have another playable copy--making a data disc => pointless)
So therefore, clearly the best way would be just to either reburn the .ISO file, if you still have it on your hardrive or to just rip the ISO from your existing copy and burn it again--so you have two copies of the same game.
I'm not trying to flame you nor am I trying to dissuade you from posting if you are legitimately having problems/questions, but you say you know about RAR files etc. but to me the question you posted indicates otherwise. :P

OK, first thing, I want to have a disc which is NON playable by the PS2 which includes my .iso file. Thanks ^^. Yes, I know I will waste another disc in burning again, but this is just how I keep my files. Secondly, I was asking you whether I should put the .iso file, or the rar files onto this disc:
Disc 1 Disc 2
o o
.iso RAR files
Its just that simple, which one is better? Coz they both have the same thing, except that the .iso doesnt included the .sfv and .nfo etc files.
Thanks, once again ^^
