I've flashed two Hitachis, and am now flashing my first Samsung. I got a sata card with a VIA 6421A chipset and plugged it into a PCI slot on my pc. When restarting, there was no detection at all. So I shut it down, put it into another PCI slot and still nothing! Any ideas?? Do I need to plug something into the sata port for the PC to recognize it? Am I doing something wrong? Any help would be appreciated.

Make sure its well pushed in. Give it a good shove in, not too hard obviously. Also, you could try installing the drivers, then pluggin in the card, then reinstalling the drivers. Worked for me.

Thanks for the info. How can you install the dirvers though without the pc detecting it? I have the drivers on a disc, and there's a setup file there. However, the setup file fails to start and throws me an error message that the hardware isn't connected to the pc. Let me know how you did it.

The card is not detected in windows device manager? You could try hooking a drive to it to see if you get the dos drive detection.

Is the the card itself or the 360 drive that's no being detected?

The card itself isn't being detected. I've tried all three PCI slots in my PC, I've tried installing every driver before and after connecting it but the sata card will simply not be picked up by Windows. I haven't even opened the 360 yet, because I wanted to first install the SATA card. Is there a point in trying to hook up the 360 drive in dos even though windows won't see it?

Did you look in device manager for unknown devices?

Are you sure the slots are good? Try plugging another PCI device into them to test. Lastly if the motherboard is more than 2 years old there's a good chance it'll need a bios update since SATA PCI cards weren't even around 3 years ago.

I had a 56k modem in there and it worked fine. I never actually used it, but it looked like it was working OK. My dad needed it so I took it out and gave it to him. In any event, I think the PCI slots should be OK. I'm thinking I just got a defective card. MY PC is a Dell that I bought in June of 2005, so I don't think it's too old. I contacted the company I purchased the card from online, but I'm not very optimistic. They want to charge me for shipping it back to them! A$$holes. Where can I get one of these cards locally? Would a best buy, circuit city or radio shack kind of joint have one?
Thanks again for everyones help.

Sorry to have to say it, but I've never seen a card with a VIA 6421 chipset in a store and the ones that are in stores run 2-3 times more than what you would pay online.

Just a quick update:
When I first purcahsed the Sata card, I went to newegg but they were out of stock. I didn't want to wait so I went to some other random site and purchased it from them. That's the one I got and wouldn't be detected. I then went back to newegg and got a card from them for cheaper. It came today, my PC detected it without any problems. I have a MS25 drive, flashed it with the latest Xtreme FW using Xtreme Boot Maker, and everything worked like a charm.
One last thing, I have not yet connected this xbox to xbox live, but will I have a problem with the fall update in regards to the E66?

I finally got it to work by uninstalling the drivers that came with it, ripping out the card and putting it back in (without installing any drivers). After that, my SATA card was finally detected in DOS.
