I heard of this but i had no clue what it was. I googled it and found it was something to do with the inside of my PS2 or something. I didnt understand what it wanted me to do. So, can someone tell me how to first, open my ps2 (i kind of tried to open it so i took off all the screws but it didnt come off because the cover is attached to where you insert the ps2 memory chip, this is a very very old ps2 btw) how to do the swap trick, and mybe even if it is possible.

Im very sorry if this has been said a million times or once a day, or if there is a sticky at the top.

Please and thanks!

i've tried the swap trick but not with swap magic, with a regular game and the thing is the dvd drive just doesn't stop spinning, you can remove the front from the drive tray quite easily but what comes next is the real thing, coz once i remove the original cd and put the exploit cd it only copies a 5kb settings file to the memory card, it is recognized by the console as being ps2 settings file but when i insert the trigger disc(original PSX disc used to compile the exploit)
it does not do anything at all. that's why i think you should try to use USB drive instead, now trying to get codebreaker... know to be compatible with more USB drives.... i guess.

http://www.teammodders.com/tutorials/ps2/
tutorials on how to take apart your PS2, but let me say first that you need to be very careful because the ribon cables for the power eject button ar connect between the top of the case and the bottom and will come out easily, as will the CD?DVD Drive cable.

and unless you are installing a flip top you have no reason to take it apart unless you are cleaning your laser, which is a good idea while you have it open (read a tutorial and do it right!)

To play back up games you have 2 real options
1. you get Swap Magic discs and a fliptop (replaces the current top of your PS2 or you can buy a whole case)
or instead of a flip top you can make and use a slidecard which is harder and could hurt your PS2 over time. This Swap Magic/fliptop method is the cheapest way to mod your PS2 but has a few small flaws like it can not play DVD9 (dual layer) back ups, with games from other regions it will have a small amount of screen cut off, Swapping discs is needed and with some games extra programs like Cogswaploader or DVDloader are needed so that means swapping 3 times. and using cheat discs is a total pain. and i am sure there are others. but many people choose this option just because they are cheap and willing to put up with the hassle

2. the best modding option is to get a GOOD mod chip installed by a reputable site like Teammodders.com
by good i mean DMS4 Pro, Matrix Infinity or Crystal Chip
Or you can buy the whole premodded system.
Although a mod chip is the expensive way to go it is far superior in every way to Swap Magic and you will have none of the above problems and some added features as well. Like the DMS4 Pro has a built in cheat device and software to run a hard drive in your PS2. And the newest Crystal Chip's hacked firmware has DNAS auto patching so you can play your back up games online without having to manually patch them all. do some research on the chips and decide what you want to do before you buy one as each will have it's own unique features
although all of them will play back ups better and with less hassle than Swap Magic.
A good chip is between $35 and $55
The install i think is about $35
and shipping would be about $15 each way for insured USPS
