I can't remember where I read it, not sure if I remember any of it even right but could someone clarify this:

Does flashing this drive require a different method? I read some where you need a chip or something? ( sorry still a newb )

I saw a post that a FW was released for this, now I'm not asking where it can be found, but if it can be found by that I mean has anyone else found it on there own. I myself looked for i'd say an hour couldn't find it....

PS just taking the xbox 360 apart was deadly LOL, I watched 3 different videos and from what I saw in the videos and did myself MS has slightly added a few precautions to stop from opening the case.

1. from the HDD side to remove that grey peice one of the pegs are so far back that the pocking through the wholes didn't work for me, I had to work around them by removing 5/6 tabs then opening the case and the grey peice just slid out.

2. theres a metal foil tape attaching the drive to the case, its underneith so it took me a few minutes to figure out why I couldnt lift up my drive.

Has anyone else faced these problems? I'd like to think I'm the first to discover this hehe.

There is no "normal" firmware released for this drive. Anything you see will probably just brick your 360. The only way right now to flash it unless there's been a very recent change is to remove a chip which is encased in hard black resin and you'll need a workstation for flashing it. Then you'll have to get the chip back on there which is pretty hard.

here's the basic steps:

1) You cannot read FW or Key while the chip containing it is on the drive (ATM). It must be removed.

2) You must remove the chip WITHOUT damaging it. You'll have to heat the epoxy both around and under the chip and de-solder it with suitable tools.

3) Use a programmer that can handle the 39VF020. Get the FW Dump. Patch the 1.6 FW / Encrypt and Re-program a new chip.

4) Re-solder the chip to the board 100% (this is where most go wrong). You'll need a good quality iron and rework station and board cleaner.

This isn't the for faint of heart or inexperienced. If you don't have a great deal of experience in these type things it's best to find a professional who can do it for you or sell your 360 and look for one with a different drive.

WoW.... really that just crushed my spirit.... I spent soo much time reading up and everything.... Im just crushed. Is there anyway to tell outside the box before even buying it wat type of drive its gonna have, Kind of like the psp there were certain letters that told you what FW was on board?

Yes there is. Although, this isn't 100% since it's just what people report, but it still seems to be pretty spot on. Look at the lot number on the outside of the box in the store. Check it against this database. http://www.360drives.com/list?sort=lotno Out of curiosity I found one MS25 a Target last week, while the rest were 0078FKs. I think there was a MS28 too. If you just bought your 360 I'd take it back and look for a more suitable one.

Since it's a bundle I don't know if they'd give you crap if it came with games you and opened then. I'd just say I changed my mind and would like a refund. I'm getting a PS3 instead.

Yes, MS28 requires a trickier method than MS25, but it's still doable.

LOL!! That's funny that you actually told him that, lol. I have to buy a new one, and return the dead one. I really hope I get another Samsung drive. I'm taking a list I printed off the 360 Drives site.

4.2A is supposed to read the game at 12X the same speed as originals.

4.2B is supposed to read slower but be less noisy.

Been using 4.2A so far and it works great. Reads backups smoother than originals.

Wow ok 4.2a it is. Ok here are a few more questions for you.

1. Do I need a Xecuter connector for this task/would it actually make it easier? If so how would it work? Don't you need to do that 10 second trick?

2. Once flash can I use Xbox Live?

3. Will the update from Xbox live mess my flash up?

4. Before I can even begin I need a SATA connector, I checked inside my PC to see if my motherboard had one but sadly no. Also my Pc is about 6 years old, rite around when the first XP was released. I know my motherbaord doesnt support PCI so is there any one way for me to get this connected? Maybe an AGP SATA connector?

5. Anyone got a much more updated video/tutorial on the flashing of the MS28, that video didnt explain a few things....

SUPER thanks to anyone that can answeer a few questions. Really I'd GREATLY appreciate it.

Ok I read up on the 360 USB but under compatibility it states only with the Hitachi drives... But under the product features it states works with any SATA hd or drive? :S I'm confused on top of that do I need to buy the Xecutor connector kit or does it come with it? I also have a MS28 drive so wouldnt I need the power still coming from the 360 with the video cable plugged in? It said that if I didn't the 360 might shut off in the middle of the flashing process and fcuk everything up.
