Hello,

I have bought new PS2 slim 77003 version. I have read a lot of threads here but I am really confused. Therefore I would like to ask you few questions to clarify some things. Most important thing is that I DONT want to lose warranty on my ps2 and therefore I am looking for different solutions than opening ps2 and installing modchip.

I have bought my ps2 for games and for watching DVDs and divx/xvid movies. I have tried DVDs and they work fine as well as backup DVDs burnt by me (+ removed protection and region settings).

Questions:

1. What do I need to watch xvid/divx movies on my PS2 and is it possible to do it from USB HDD drive? Do I need to buy USBeXtreme DVD or is it possible to do that using Swapmagic?

2. Can I use Swapmagic to play games from USB hdd? Do I need additional software or hardware? Do I need USB stick drive or memory card to run programs for divx/xvid and running games from USB?

What I am trying to do is to buy Swapmagic but I dont want to install Magickeys II (as it might be real problem to install after reading these forums) and keep it inside ps2. Then running USBeXtreme or simillar from memory card/usb stick to be able to play games from HDD so there is no need to change DVDs. And also swapmagic + some software to play xvid/divx from USB hdd.

Is this possible? Is this possible with PS2 slim?

I would really appreciate any help I can get.

I can tell you one thing, that USBeXtreme does not work with many games at all. You can do a search as I dont have the link handy for the games that do/donte work the USBeXtreme.

Im in the process of returning it and going with the Swap Magic and keys or slim tool as soon as I get more feedback. I too, dont want to void the warranty and open my case.

Swap magic looks like my best option so far.

hi, i just brought the same console for my daughter and let me tell u, the swap tools are easy to install despite ppl saying otherwise, it took me about 2-3 mins to get both tools in, the metal tool just has to be guided gently into the hole with a pair of tweezers, and has a little 3M sticky pad to hold it down, simple as that.

put in the swap disc's boot up, swap to ur copied game hit X.

Mine load straight away no probs, the boot is instant no constant reading of disc's.
i got lucky with the media i guess, i use DataWrite RED Mach 4 8x
but they burn at 12X and there fine :D

So does it mean that there is no point in having USB hdd at all? And what about playing xvid/divx from HDD?
