Motorola RAZR V3 - MPT Problem

I've been browsing through the forums for a few days now, and I can't seem to figure out what's going on. I'm a n00b at this stuff, so please bear with me.

I installed MPT, latest version. Its 4.XX, I forget. I open it, and it says to choose connection type. I chose USB cable, cuz that's what I have.

It proceeds to tell me to connect the usb cable to my phone, then to connect the phone to the computer, and to make sure the phone is on. I've done this.

It istalls a modem driver, and the installation bar finishes, but then I get message telling me that "Motorola Phone Tools cannot detect your phone." And it prompts me to update the program, but it IS up to date.

It repeats from the "choose cable" part. This time it doesnt search install the Motorola Modem driver cuz it's installed it 30 sec ago. It still cannot detect my phone.

I need help! How do I get it to recognize my phone? It obviously knows my phone was attached since it installed a modem driver, right? And now, whenever I plug in my phone to the computer, it even starts to charge the battery. But nothing works! It doesnt read my phone for some reason! My friend has the exact same phone and exact same provider as me and he doesn't have this problem, it worked for him from the start, and hes able to transfer pics and ringtones and stuff. This is frustrating me!
