I have a dell with 1.8 pentium 4, with an 8x lite on burner, nothing special. I have had this set up for 3 yrs and have been ripping ever since with shrink 3.2 and Nero. When I have to rip a movie which is large, like superman, it takes about 2 hrs. It has always been that way, I thought thats just how it was. My friend just got a newer computer nothing fancy, just a compaq 2.6 pentium. I showed him to to burn and he did superman in 35 minutes. I cant imagine his compaq would out perform my dell like that, or what other problem could be causing me to rip so slowly. Another friend of mine told me to try making the files iso instead of vop, that wasnt any faster. Any sugestions????

Something is wrong somewhere in your settings.I have a Dell 2.26 and I can do a movie in 30mins also. Are your drives in PIO mode? They should be in DMA mode. Here's how to check and respond back.

TO RESET DMA

Right click on My Computer. Check under System Properties, Device Manager, IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers. Both Primary and Secondary IDE channel properties under Advanced Settings should be set to DMA - not PIO.

Wordy, but it makes a BIG difference if your system slipped into PIO. Reset to DMA.
