I am going to be burning dvd movies for use in a playstation 2 and a sony dvd player. The sony dvd player is a high end model, i can check on the exact model of the dvd-player and the ps2 tomorrow and i wanted to know which brand and kind of media to use. The burner that I bought is a hp300i. I've read that a lot of people say to be safe and buy the more expensive media such as verbatim and memorex.

Hi, i recommend you buy Ritek media. Here are some test results on media (the site is updated with new media daily) check them out and it may help you decide:

Doesn't matter if it is high end or low end (standalone dvd player) the question is, "is the player new?"

I have a very high end sony dvd standalone player from years back. DVD+R's play but there is pixelation. A cheapy sony dvd player I got for 100 bucks plays DVD+Rs perfectly.

The high end standalone I have also cannot detect Ritek discs from time to time, but the cheapy standalone recognizes them without a hitch.

Considering that the dye lifespan of cheapies like Ritek is questionable (No one can tell you how long they are guaranteed to last), if you got the bucks go with the branded stuff like Verbatims.

You are most certainly wrong with the cheapy Ritek. Traxdata is one of the best discs around - who makes it - RITEK. They will last just as long as any other high-end DVD, bar the Pioneer own brand probably.

If a Ritek does not play on a player that would otherwise play the name brand dvd-rs then one must begin to assume that Ritek, although good, is not the best.

I have never had a dvd-r from Memorexes (100+), Verbatim (30+) and Fuji (10+) (the only brands I have used so far) that failed to play when properly burned by my older standalone sony I mentioned. It just has problems with some of the burned Riteks.

I don't think they sell Traxdata here in the States. I don't think I ever came across them even on the sites that sell the Riteks.
