i flashed my drive months ago and all was working fine, last night i turnd my 360 on and the drive would not load up, it plays original games and dvd's but won't even begin to read my copies anymore and just says open tray on the dashboard, any idea what this is,
also my disc is hovering a little bit when it first loads up, it's the ms28 drive, any idea how to stop this cos it's making my 360 noisy as hell

Ahh... the "open tray" issue. I've been dealing with this since Friday.
My friend just purchased a new 360 premium.
- Mfg. date 5/08/2006
- Lot 0619
- Team WZHO
It has the ms25 drive. We flashed it with 3.3 at my house, verify it working with a backup of COD3 and he went home. There he played Saints Row (backup) for awhile that night. The next night a bunch of us met as his house for game night. As soon as he put in COD3 he got the "open tray" issue. We tried my backups
- COD3 - Verb 2.4x - open tray
- GOW - Verb. 2.4x - both open tray and works
- Rainbow 6 - Verb 4x - works every time
I was a little stumped as COD3 worked at my house, but then didn't the next day at his.
I worked on it the next day.
- updated fw to 4.2a (updated version)
- laser rail fix
For the rail I used a piece of foam (instead of rubberband) from a pack of dvd. No luck.
I do alot of work on PS2's and I've seen this problem alot. So before I tried making an adjustment to the rail fix, I reburnt COD3 at 4x. It worked perfect. I then burnt GOW at 4x and it works.
So this tells me that the open tray error may be due to the pot setting/laser alignment. Both can be adjusted. But I left everything alone, told him to play the 4x backups for a month or so and see if he has any more issues, and we'll go from there.
So long story short... try burning a game at 4x and see if it helps any.

thanks that worked, i just wanted to get my last few achievements on GOW, was gutted when it didnt work, burnt it at 4x and it works perfect, only problem is i now have another 45 dual layer discs to buy and lots of hours of burning to do,

I don't know why you guys burn at 2.4x still but I've been burning at 4x from the get-go and been preaching it all along. Finally maybe we can get some real evidence to these errors from burning at 2.4x.

i agree,i even made a topic bout burning at 4x here but alot of people insisted that 2x was the way to go....i burn at 4x and have no problem at all

i burned a couple games at 4x and halfway through they would freeze up on me.. so i reburn at 2.4 and they work without a glitch.. just my 2 cents

What disks do you use to burn at x4? I use verbatim's but they have a max speed of x2.4
I have been having quite a lot of open tray errors lately but all I do is double tap eject really quick and it loads the game fine.

The verb 2.4x's will burn up to 8x. Try one at 4x if your burner will support it.

I burnt at x4 and the game loads fine, now it freezes in the middle of the game :-( Maybe its just a bad rip.
