I the Classic media player installed on the comp, so I can play mkv files on there, but I want to be able to watch them on my 360. Any ideas how to do that?

Well, first off; 'special software' should not be a necessity. IMHO anyone who uses their computer for more than a little casual gaming/internet/email should already have a program called 'Media Player Classic'. It will play everything, I mean EVERYTHING. It's a wonderful piece of software with no overhead, and it doesn't bog down your system at all.

As for your problem with getting it on the 360; there are various programs which replace the 'media connect' functions, for streaming purposes. I would suggest using on of those.

Hello,

To watch an .MKV file you will have to convert it to a WMV file. Video Cleaner Pro is an easy program to use. Once you convert the file to WMV you will be able to play it on your xbox via usb hard drive, dvd (prob if your converting HD content :).. ) or over the network. I have converted HD content from a MKV file to WMV with HD resolutions. Takes a bit of time... 3 hours of video took 14 hours on my core 2 duo 2.13 box. The converted HD content looked amazing on the 360. I guess it depends on your source material. I was working with 720p material. Anyway, the only setback is that video cleaner pro does not support multichannel audio, so if your mkv has multi channels they will be downmixed to stereo.

You will need all the mkv codec installed for this process. If anyone knows how to convert the mkv audio & video to WMV-HD format WITH!!! multichannel audio please do tell.
