Ive searched and searched all day today and I just cant seem to get a straight answer for my setup.
Here it goes.
1. PS2 V1 completely stock.
2. PS2 Network Adapter
3. Ive got a couple of hd's , but they dont seem to power on allthough they seem to be on the compatible list.
Now , Ive tried using winhiip to load on hdloader , at least direct through the program.
Do I actually need a modchip?
I thought you could use hd loader by itself to get games loaded?
What do I need to get going?
Ive tried burning a few programs to disc only to have them show as backups on the red cloud screen and basically saying use ps2 disc.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

U dont need a modchip,
U just sumhow need a way to boot a back up cd, or put hdloader onto the memory card exploit, or buy hdadvance (Latest version)

I dont mean to step on toes but ARMax for 40 dollars has an advantage.
1.you get a usb stick
2.you get a cheat device that has some nice tools
3.minimal cd swapping
4.no online shopping unless you actually want to
There is also ARMax Evo you can find both at your local gamestore

Your best bet is getting a hdadvance 3.0. Currently you can but it for 19.99 , but make sure you get the appropriate device.
Slide card or fliptop v4-v8,v9 = older ps2
new slims: v12 fliptp or magic switch

Yeah I went with swap magic 3.6 with tools. Im not sure if this was the right move but simply went on the above suggestion and figure im just going to dive into it. See what happens.
I have a v1 ps2 , not sure if it supports the flip top...looked around for it. Sounds like a great idea.
But Im gathering I can load in whatever software afterwards.

Your best bet for a v1 is a slide card. I haven't seen any v1 fliptops before.

Yeah thats what im getting. Ok so once I do get this program. What the heck do I do now...lol. This is so frustrating at times.
Im guessing it should load up and at least go from there. Im thinking I should be good. Im hoping to set it up so I dont have to slide card it over and over and want to be able to just load in games via the hd and the ethernet cable....

There are a few ways you can go with swap magic.
If you create the memorycard exploit, then u can use swap magic to install hdloader (and other programs if u want) onto the memory card. But u need a ps1 game, and might have to read up on a few tutorials to learn whats what.
The easiest right now would be if you have a usb stick (Not all are compatible with the ps2, so bit of a trial and error) Then download hdloader 8b.elf and stick it onto your usb. Load up swap magic with the usb plugged in, and if all good, it will load hdloader up without using a slide tool or anything.
Install the games onto your hdd using a program called WINHIIP through the pc (sksapps.com) . Its much faster then through the ethernet port. And it saves your ps2 lazer life.

Ok got the usb flash drive , its a 1gig unit. I have swap magic and Does the elf file need to be on the drive alone , is there any way to setup the usb flash stick? or is it as simple as copy and pasting it over?

Also how do I know if my ps2 is recognizing my usb flash , I also heard you can use an ipod.... I might give that a go.
