I have an XBox360 HD Drive... and from what I read, it will only upscale non-HD movies if you use the VGA cable. Well, my TV doesn't have a VGA port - so if I get the VGA cables and hook that into a VGA-to-Component Cable and plug the Component into the TV, will I lose the upscaling?

Is this a good solution or can you suggest a better one?

Is there a big difference when you upscale a DVD?

Thanks for your help!!!!

does your tv have dvi it's east to find vga to dvi adapters cheap to some come with video cards prepacked. I don't know that much about xbox but most upscaling happens only with hdmi but I could be wrong in regards to an xbox.

VGA to DVI will not work in this case, as it is an analog VGA signal from the 360, DVI is digital, A.K.A. not compatible. You can certainly try VGA to component cables if you can find them, as they are both analog, however, the 360 may somehow detect that the input is not truely VGA and won't upscale the image, I can't say for sure.

Yes, at least up to 720p/1080i (looks great). For 1080p you need the VGA cable or a set that will accept 1080p through the component inputs.

FYI,
I have an Xbox 360 HD-DVD add-on and was concerned that I couldn't get 1080p because it only has component out (even though there's a 1080p setting on the add-on). I just acquired a Sharp XV-Z20000 - a 1080p front projector and guess what? It accepts a 1080p signal through its component in jacks! Unless I'm mistaken about this - I'm definitely getting a spectacular picture.

Nice! From what I gather a set/projector that can accept 1080p through the component input is a rare thing. For some chat about this subject see:
