A dvd I wanted to back up (ben-hur) was copy protected so I read in the forum to use dvd decrypter, but the dvd is close to 7.9 gb. How do I solve this problem now??

Did you try and use DVD Decrypter or did you just assume it would not work and didn't bother?

The fact to the matter is that I read in this forum that you can only use DVD Decrypter for files that are 4.7 or less (that will fit into a dvd+R) Benhur is 7.9. What?s the good in ripping it if I can?t burn it afterwards? Do you know how to get around this?

you misunderstand us, you rip the whole dvd with dvd decrypt - then use a program such as instant copy to resize it to <4.7GB then burn

dvd shrink (to rip and compress)
or
dvd decrypter(to rip) + dvd2one/dvdshrink (to compress)

So, on a relaed tack, I scored a DVD that weighs in around 8 GB. It has three different films on it, total about 190 minutes. Can one split this up and burn to 2 or 3 different DVDs? I have the same poroblem here, the ISO is way to big for one DVD-R. But ideally I would like to retain the resolution of the original tracks, rather than compress down to VCD resolution to solve the problem.
It looks to me like DVD Decrypter might be capable of splitting the thing up, but is any more extensive documentation available for the program than what is found in the official AfterDawn guide? I'd just as soon avoid a pile of coasters during the learning curve.

De-CSS it to the hard drive using a decrypter tool of your choice. Open TMPGEnc DVD Author and select the VOB's you want on the first disc. Create a new project. Do the same fo the second and third discs.

Here is a user guide and the program to help you:

Hello Oriphus, I tried using DVD Decryter to burn on DVD+R but it will just hang when it reaches 99%. Honestly, the 1st step of creating ISO from DVD was good but the 2nd step of burn ISO into DVD+R hangs at 99%. I even tried burning IMG created by ImgTools and it stills hangs at 99%.
I'm using a HP DVD200e writer and it works well with my other DVD softwares like Sonic MyDVD, Arcsoft Showbiz, etc.
Could you advise what seems to be my problem or is there another freeware that can burn DVD like DVD Decryter?

Im not a big fan of creating ISO to play on DVD's. Id far rather have it on a Data disc and enclosed in a VIDEO_TS folder. You should try that in Nero or Record Now Deluxe.
