I have a SLV-R1000 from sony it has a button to turn off SVHS why would I ever want to do that? do I have to do this if I'm going to insert a regular vhs tape? but the VCR remove the electronic svhs sign from the lid if I do so is very much automatic... then why would I do this manually? in case I don't want to record onto SVHS format onto a SVHS tape? why not?

the only reason to turn it off would be to use typical vhs tapes and not svhs tapes, which is the style i believe most people normally used. if you're not going to record in the svhs format (400 horizontal lines of pixels), but use the regular vhs format (250 horizontal lines of pixels), then what is the purpose of recording on an svhs tape at all?
