Ive searched around and havent found an answer to fixing this issue, so is it true? absolutely NO way of fixing this (unless sending it back to M$)?

I was considering getting a cheap broken one off ebay but if there is no hope for it, then im screwed..

No, not unless you are some type of expert at repairing electronics and computers. The thing was listed cheap and as broken on ebay for a good reason.
