Hi I just bought Swap Magic for the first time after I heard the new Coder edition could read "programs" off a USB Mass Storage device. Has anyone actually got this to work? I followed the instructions like it says but it don't work at all. I just get a black screen if I try to load SMBOOT0.ELF. I'm trying to play FF XII.

What are you trying to do with F.F?
You dont need a game to use the usb stick.
Also maybe your usb stick is not compatible with the ps2.

Have you tried making a folder on your usb stick called "SWAPMAGIC" then renaming the elf file that you want to "SWAPMAGIC.ELF".

Then plug the stick in, and boot up swap magic.
If the stick is compatibly it should boot your elf file.

I have a 150GB Western Digital usb external hard drive. I made a folder in the root directory of the hard drive called SWAPMAGIC. I then placed FF XII in there and renamed it SWAPMAGIC.ELF. It does not load up. As far as the HD being compatible, the HD powers on whith the ps2 when turned on. As far as that I don't know.

Oh hang on.
So you have an FF XII.iso file right?
And then you rename it to SWAPMAGIC.ELF in a swapmagic folder etc?

IF so, you cannot do that. You can only load an original elf file created to boot from the ps2. Not and image file of a game.

What you can do is download usbadvance.elf off the net. Stick that onto your usbstick/hdd, and make the swapmagic folder etc again.
Then look up on the net how to use usbadvance, how to convert a game onto the hdd for usbadvance etc, and also check up if final fantasy is even compatible with usbadvance.

Theres only like 10% games compatible with usb advance, and is the only program that can play ps2 games through usb HDD's.
