I read somewhere that DVD Shrink can convert PAL to NTSC. Is this true? If it is true how do I do this. I have some foreign DVD's that are PAL format and I can"t play them here. Help.

DVD Shrink can't change the movie from PAL to NTSC...you will need Nero Vision or a similar app to do this.

Here are options to consider.

1. Buy a multi region/multi format DVD player. Could be a little pricey.

2. You can rip the PAL dvd using Decrypter to remove the region coding. It will still be in PAL format, but it will play on your computer; just not your TV.

I have done this. Here's how.

Put disk in your computer. It will give you an error about region coding. Ignore it and close that message. Do NOT change the region setting on your disk drive.

Open Decrypter and point it to your disk drive with the DVD in it. Decryper will give you an error message. Ignore it and continue to rip anyway. It will say something about Brute Force. It will rip to your HD anyway, might take a little longer than normal.

Once ripped, open Shrink and process it as usual. Burn to disk with ImgBurn.

The resulting disk will be Region free, but still in PAL format. It WILL play fine on the computer, but not in an NTSC disk/TV setup.

I have tried various ways to convert PAL to NTSC and either the picture is jerky or the sound is out of sync with the lips. There may be more effective solutions, but they are either beyond me or too costly. This method is good if you are dealing with only a few disks and are willing to watch them on a PC only.
