I'm trying to boot from a backup of my PS2 Linux DVD1 from the original PS2 Linux kit so far without success.

I would love the help of those knowlegdeable in PS2 hack-fu on this forum in order to accomplish this!

I've used DeepBurner on my PC to create an ISO image of DVD1, and I've burned it to a DVD-R. This is the method I usually use when making PS2 backups, and it usually works.

My PS2 with flip top and Swap Magic 3.6 DVD can't boot the backup. When I try booting from the backup using Swap Magic, it gives me the message "Not a valid PS2 disc" in both normal boot and special boot.

I've created a torrent with both PS2 DVDs (compressed with WinRAR to save bandwidth) for those interested in trying this out for themselves. DVD1 is the one to boot from. DVD2 has a bunch of RPMs of Linux "accessories" on it.

Is there anybody out there who has successfully booted from their Linux DVD backup? Is an actual hardware modchip required? Is a patch to the image required?

I heard on one forum that it doesnt work with swap magic or swap method. I think it was on SKSAPPS.com
I think u need a modchip.

According to a different upload of the same DVDs to piratebay, you need a modchip or to use the Action Replay Max exploit
