I am having a problem that I hope someone can help me with.
I am using Nero Vision from Nero Burning Rom version 7.
Computer is P4 2.4 GHz 1.0 gb ram Windows XP SP2 with an
LG DVD super multi writer, using DVD+R discs.

The problem is the file size for avi's. Sometimes I can burn a
700 mb file to a 4.7 gb disc and sometimes Nero vision tells me
that the file is too big for the disc. This doesn't make sense to me.
I know Nero Vision has to change the AVI [transcode] it to a
proper format.
I try to keep my avi's [downloaded] to 700 mb and under, this seemed
to work for a while but, increasingly I am get the "TOO BIG" msg
more and more.

Can anyone explain to me why its OK sometimes and not others?
Is there any workaround for this ?
[better burning software?]
[different settings in Nero Burning Rom?]
[another piece of software that would tell me file is too big
after transcoding]

It is immensely annoying to wait for 4 - 12 hours for a
downloading of an AVI file, only to find I have to try to find another
download that may or may not be the right size.

dabud,

The reason you are getting that message is because the some movies are compress more than others. Next time you get that message, just click yes and Nero would reduce it to fit onto a dvd.

That's the way (how) it's suppose to be regardless. Any ordinary 700MB of AVI file can transform into 4GB - 4.7GB of DVD files VOB, BUP and IFO (VIDEO_TS) easily depends on how you set the "quality" via Nero Vision.

To successfully convert and transcode any 700MB of AVI to DVD, Nero Vision usually takes around 2 - 3 hrs (depends on how fast is your system).

Best of luck!!

The size of the original AVI is completely irrelevant. It is the length in time (hours/minutes) that matters.

I can create an AVI (XviD) of a 90 minute movie and depending on the bitrate (quality settings) used it can end up as 700 to 1400 MB in size. Now if I add the 700MB or the 1.4GB AVI to NeroVision Express 3 the end result will be the same. With NVE's default 'Standard Quality' (video bitrate of 5017 kb/s) setting either one will fit/burn/work.

You don't have to worry about AVI size, note the length in time and learn to adjust NVE's bitrate accordingly.

This site will help with calculations.

Thanks to all who replied for information and help
I have switched to ConvertXtoDVD for my transcoding and burn by Nero.
Works great.
A little bit of knowledge is NOT always a dangerous thing.

@dabud

I think you made a wise choice to go to ConvertXtoDVD. It is a great app and I always use it for my AVI conversions or converting a DVD from PAL to NTSC.

I have used Nero Vision allot in the past but ever since ConvertXtoDVD was suggested to me I have not used anything else. Great program and worth the money to buy.

In Any case allot of great advice given above by other members and will be helpful for others that might not have the means to buy ConvertXtoDVD and have to stick with Nero Vision.
