wireless headset problems anyone?

I have just got the microsoft wireless headset but am having problems with it. i have done the connecting it up to my console and so on but it does not connect on the same channel as my controller!! If my controller is connected to port 1 then my headset will connect to port 2. if i then try to manually flick through the channels on the headset it will only pick up ports 2,3 or 4. anyone else have this problem? is starting to bug me now.
